What kind of scholarship do top NCAA runners come in on?

school to school it can vary so much and each has their own unique edge. West schools with the WUE, private schools with tuition exchange, foreign countries sponsoring scholarships for international students in certain majors.

That’s why fairness in the ncaa is impossible. If a 28:20 kid wants to pay to go to school go them if they have the money.

As the cost of school rises the gap for have and have nots grows too. I have heard Texas tech have become wizards of cap management with rule changes in the last 10 years and it shows. They are stacked!!!!

I have heard the inverse for Colorado. They don’t have the options and their out of state cost has sky rocketed. Supply and demand! Tons of applications to go to CU and you can raise the price.

The portal will funnel kids to where they can get the best deal. I’ve seen complaints on this board of internationals transferring to SEC schools and claims of tampering. I think they kids have the internet and can find out where the biggest checks are

You are crazy if you think that Nico isn’t getting a full ride. He would get a full ride at any program of his choosing.

That’s certainly fast enough to get a full ride. But there are many factors. Obviously it’s competition for those 12.5 slots. If a team is graduating a lot of guys and has fewer comittments then they were hoping fore they’ll have more money for you. If their team is young and have lot of other prospects, you’ll get less. With the extra year of covid eligibility there is as less to go around

He checked with many schools and was offered nothing close to full. Coaches seemed to think k because he was smart that he could get his own academic aid.

These days, there is even more money out there. If you build a following on socials in HS, NIL money can pour in quickly if you stay healthy and relevant in College. Or just be attractive along with large following and that will pay as well. Lots of the P5 schools have entire departments dedicated to NIL navigation and deals now.

70% scholarship to a mid major with sub 4:20 mile and 9:30 2 mile. Could have walked onto nearly any team in the country, but went with the smart decision. Now I don't get to complain about student debt being the older generations fault.

There are slivers of accuracy in what you're saying, but having been at a school recently that is winning national titles in track and compete for podiums in XC, its not that simple. Distance recruits these days have to have range to get money. No coach in their right mind is going to turn down a kid that can double and place top 5 @ a P5 conference for points and potentially double indoors in the mile/3k or 3k/5k. Outdoors is different when you throw in the 10k, but there are lots of guys who can attempt the double of 5k/10k and score points in both. Round that up over a year and you have a low stick for XC nats, two events for points at indoors, and 1-2 events outdoors. That's a bigger spread than any jumper will give you, even if they are a 8-10 point candidate outdoors. Think off all the bonuses a coach can accrue for XC conference win, XC nationals podium, Indoor/outdoor conference win, indoor/outdoor nats podium/win. You can't do it without a decent stable of distance studs.

Who are those people? You act like you can pick them based on high school performance. Valby? Blanks? Conversely, Birnbaum? Burns? Nobody can predict that somebody will score in multiple distance events.

Just curious - when people refer to percentages in this thread, are they referring to percentage of all cost, including accommodation and food - or just percentage of the cost of tuition/books?

Class of 2018 I ran 4:26, 9:25, 15:30 XC 5k

I was smart so most mid majors offered me 40-65% off of just academics, and a few gave me 20-25% athletic offers.

My final decision gave me the 35% I needed to combine with the academic to pay $0. I even go rent refunded to me when I moved off campus and got to keep a meal plan.

No, international transfer student with pretty good GPA

Many Private Schools have a leg up on public schools with the same scholarship numbers. A mediocre catholic school I attended offered just about everyone who attended a 50% merit scholarship for academic performance. half of 80k is 40k(still not cheap). it could then stretch its 5 full athletic scholarships across 10 xc athletes and provide fulls or close to for all of them. a public university can’t give away bs merit aid for a 3.7 hs gpa. so most guys are not receiving fulls unless fafsa helps or they’re very elite.

Considering that there are many people who'd pay millions for their child to have a seat there, it's a worthwhile trade. It's not like he's going to NAU
