Tuohy was once a generational talent

Gals seem to have a narrower window in which they peak. Not too long ago Grace Ping was "The next Generational Talent" when she was a young teenager running elite times almost equal of top collegiate talent. And then it didn't extend into HS or College. Before Kaitlyn Touhy there was Brie Oakley but faded immediately in college. Touhy was great in HS and college but was overshadowed and outperformed by the end of her college career by Valby. Mary Cain was going to be the next Slaney but didn't even make a mark in the pros. Meanwhile ESP, Monson and Hiltz were good in HS and college but never called "generational talent" but have excelled as pros. ...Maybe Valby does too. But it hardly ever plays out that the best preHS, HS and even collegiate greats become great pros.

She is 3-0 on the track against Valby, beat her a 2023 regionals doubling off the 1500, has run faster in the 1500, mile and 3000m, ran a very good 5000m time, and is 2-2 in xc. We will see how she runs this spring, but I thought a healthy Tuohy would have made it a race at xc nationals. A worn out 15:03 is in striking distance of Valby's 5000m pr range and Valby has not gotten within 5 seconds of Tuohy's 3000m record. Valby just never gets tired like ordinary mortals.

Athletics is a very different beast in America.

You focus on youth success to too great an extent. It's only really in the early to mid-20s that you get a real idea of where an athlete is going to end up.

And you build them up to knock them down.

Well Schweizer is more than 5 years older than Tuohy, for the record. Admittedly it is a bit less than 6 but more than 5.

Yeah I am excited to see what she does as a pro and for her pro debut. Yes, people are too hard on her here and the fact remains all 4 of her NCAA records are still intact (although the 5k outdoor will surely go this season).

But, she is not (hopefully ) making choices based on getting a job as a D1 coach at NC State someday... that is not why Adidas signed her. Hopefully she is setting herself up to make teams.

Taking the long view.

Tuohy is 7 years older than Leachman. Imagine what Leachman will run at 22 if everyone improves. Tuohy fans always play the game when talking about older runners but then change the rules when talking about younger runners. Forget you sill games. Valby and Wiley are straight up faster amd not older. Tuohy loses. She is done.

Me too. Cook, Hutchins, Leachman. All are better than Tuohy. I agree with you.

Cranny will turn 28 in a few months. Tuohy’s 22nd birthday is next week.

Tuohy will be fine, regardless of what she does in the future. She’s bright and has her head on straight. She will do well in the game called life.

Your point is valid. Younger runners can't be compared to older ones because the younger ones will surpass the older runners. But Valby and Wiley are actually better than Tuohy's lifetime marks so they are destined to be world class. I agree.

I'd say Tuohy had matched up well with Valby. And the other is a cautionary tale.

You are living in the past man. 14:52. Maybe you missed the meet. You are really good at bouncing around. Just lay out which side of the logic train tracks you are standing on so that we can have a discussion.

Again this seems to be a false statement. But also again, I don’t care about these runners so I have no point here EXCEPT to say I don’t think Tuohy is 7 years older than Leachman.

Well, at least this guy is being honest.

Leachman recently turned 16. Tuohy will be 22 this month. So Tuohy is about 5 years and 10 months older.

There is one consistent thing about these who seem to enjoy posting something negative about Tuohy and that is their attention to the factual details of what they post is lacking. I wish I was as sure as they claim to be about the future.
