This actually makes zense, I looked into this kind of training and it stuck me how "hard" the easy days were. A bit in line with MFs 80/20 (not that that is good training) easy days.
I actually ran a few guys data using TRIMP who have been training like this and the load of 6 days versus an aggregate of 6 days of NSM had the load more heavier, in favour of this. I know for me personally running some of the easy efforts I have seen people prescribe for this is a disaster waiting to happen.
But I think if you can handle a lot of what I would define as steady running close and up and sound Lt1 as opposed to really easy, you'll probably do well on this method. Steady running up to 75%+ MHR definitely has it's place for some folks and they do respond to it. For really like crunched, I think it could squeeze out a bit more.
Maybe I tried this method wrong as well. But I was doing my easy days at +1:15/km 10k pace and after about 6 weeks i was cooked 😭 far too hard. Ultimately like NSM, if you can recover from it I'm sure it's fine but I couldn't handle it.
Great to see some people having some success with it though, I actually enjoyed being able to run a bit harder on my easy days to squeeze the juice, but the body just wouldn't play. I think if you dial back the easy too much, yes you can recover but then I was leaving too much on the table. Maybe if I get bored of something like NSM or the success dries up I will come back to it and try. But I see this as possibly something more a coach would have to manage for you, than plug and play because there are quite a lot of variables to balance.
Nice to hear others feedback though!
