I think guys from the neighborhood making it out because of their musical prowess, instead of selling drugs or running scams that would hurt their community, is pretty wholesome. They created music that reflected their reality and the struggles they faced. Like everyone else they rapped about what they knew. They just happened to be from Compton. Badass name for a track club.
