Rupp 1:02:37 at Houston half

I was standing at mile 10 waiting for Galen to come through. I saw the pace car coming and a big group of runners, but as they got closer I couldn't find Galen. He wasn't there. I was shocked because there were about 7 or 8 guys all in the lead pack. No one had attacked yet. They all looked comfortable. Then about a hundred meters or so back was another group of 3, which had Colley, but still no Galen. I thought for sure he must have dropped out somewhere to save himself for the trials. Then I saw another group of 3 off in the distance, and sure enough, there was Galen. He didn't look good, though. Not good, considering the trials are 3 weeks out.

Anyone consider that at 37 and off the Salazar sauce he is just good and not exceptional? I’m curious what he would be running if still with Alberto.

I know Galen is on the older side, but he should still be performing much better in the marathon and half marathon.

I wish he chose a true marathon coach instead of Mike Smith. Yes, Mike Smith qualified for the trials in the marathon but he's never coached high level marathoners before.

I know LRC worships Mike Smith, but you have to admit Galen is underperforming and it's not for a lack of talent. He is losing to American's that I've never heard of. The coaching clearly isn't working the way he had hoped.

It's strange that Meb was slower and, while I think Meb is great, nobody put on Meb the disclaimers they are on Galen. It makes little sense.

He’s an animal.

That's a good result. With his experience it's hard to count him out in the Trials.

I’m pulling for Rupp to have a strong OT race. Obviously we don’t know what type of training Rupp did leading to this race. Rupp has a history of brutal training, and he may have done something challenging a few days before this half. We just don’t know. Hoping he can make the Team.

Same. He likely didn't taper. I can't believe how fast these guys are. The times these days are incredible. Rupp has the experience and some good fitness going for him. On the day of the OT he may have a great race and make the team.

Considering the Africans weren’t close to breaking 60 that’s a solid time

1:02 in the middle of a 115 mile week is ok for three weeks out

Exactly he’s dominated US distance running for 15 years. Who has shown the ability to challenge him? Until he gets knocked off the US mountain I wouldn’t bet against him.

Simple answer. Get back on the sauce like everybody else.

Could Rupp in his current form beat Agnes Ngetich in a 10k?

No worries. There will be at least a dozen Kenyans on the starting line of the Olympic Marathon in Paris. They just won’t all be wearing the Kenya uniform.

A 1:02 isn't what it used to be. Galen was superb for a long time but maybe his time has come.

That's about 23 seconds per mile off Half marathon WR pace.

Galen has shown he can qualify for the Olympics.

I don't care if he places there...

He is freaking 37... and regardless of the shade ...I can assure you that TMADDDHASFNE, while Southern trash who leers at women more than three times his junior, has never run anything close to Galen.
