Isn't "kick" a term reserved for people who accelerate at the end of a race?

So we’re thinking Johnson paces a 15:12 for some 15 laps, then Rodenfels opens it up from there to try and go under 15?

If that is the scenario, then maybe Valby can get the collegiate Indoor record.

Unless Olemomoi passes her before the tape.

I think they will pace it through atleast 3k based on the last couple of years.

Rodenfels has run 15:08 at this meet for the last two years in a row. She is due for a PR imho. But, she will have to close fast if that is the pace...

My prediction is Valby actually does out-kick someone for the win, beating Rodenfels by less than a second as both clock 15:05-15:07.

She ran 15:08 last year after Coburn stepped off of the track at 3600m in 10:56 (15:11 pace). Not sure how the race shook out in 2021.

Blank231 said it’s going to be paced at 15:12, why so slow? Last year it was paced the same and rodenfelds went sub3:00 pace the last 2ks to win by 10secs. If it was paced at 9:00 at the 3k which the top runners probably prefer, then Valby could run14:55. She’s in14:55 fitness. If Valby stays with the pacer thru 3k at 9:10 then agree even sub15:00 is a stretch.

In 2021 Rodenfels was the pacer and decided to stay in the race. She closed her final 200m in 30s. Valby will need to drop her because if she is having a good day and there with 400m to go I think she will win again.

Overall Rodenfels has been on an upswing recently, but she is not always consistent. Should make for a good race though.

That is what is being reported by Citius. If that is the pace that is likely what Valby's team is okay with or requested as they have input.

15:12 is the indoor 5k CR so I think she is going for the record, not sub 15.

Yeah…in the scenario where Johnson paces, followed by Valby, Rodenfels, Olemomoi, then it’s likely Rodenfels would try to go to the front sometime in the last 1000m.

So the top runners have input into the pace time? So olemomoi, Valby, and Rodenfels and potentially others requested 15:12? Why wouldn’t Rodenfels request 14:58, the world standard?

Thanks for compiling the splits hypotheticals. The pace was 9:13 at 3k in2021 (5:55 over the last 2k) and this sat will be approx 9:08 so 5 secs faster. I’m thinking with rodenfels and Valby picking up it up to say 5:52 that the intent was 15:00 all along. I’m probably over thinking this.

She may have to get out ahead of the pacer and solo it to run that.

The standard this year is the Olympic standard, 14:52, which is fast. Idk, maybe she is not going for that till a later meet... i think we will see a lot of pros doing longer base building this year because of the olympics.

A bit of guessing here, but if 15:00 is at the razor’s edge of Valby’s current fitness, then she might have a better shot at that if it was evenly paced, meaning they would need the pacer to come through 3600m in 10:45 (with a 3sec margin to string out.)
