RW: Could Orlando walk away from hosting 2024 US Olympic Marathon Trials? Sarah Lorge Butler says the contract was never signed!

Because qualifying times are getting so fast to match world-times the fields might shrink to half size the next time around.

I love the idea of special city, special course with a special day but given the cost of everything now is insane, trials are going to end up being a race tagged onto an existing race, with the elites starting maybe 30 minutes before the masses.

But Houston was the last before super-shoes and was amazing with so many PRs set.
However it wouldn't represent well with modern super-shoes which need hills to defeat their advantage (not heat but hills). It was why Atlanta was also awesome and the production team did a fantastic job.

2012 times look "slow" compared to 2016 and beyond with the shoes but look at the finishing order and times in comparison (last race for Deena Kastor too I believe, end of an era)
