Ben and Garrett are back after an action-packed weekend. In this week's episode, the guys dive into the Power Five results along with Mountain West, BIG East...
At 29:00 they pick NAU-NC State-BYU-FL in that order as their podium teams . . . Georgetown & OK State receiving honorable mention . . . they discussed the Big-12 results and stated how impressed they were with both BYU & Ok State . . . then went off the rails like the coaches did.
What is the likelihood that NC State finishes out of top 2? It seems to be a real risk if Tyynismaa ends up their 5th or 6th runner instead of top 3 to 4 like she would be in form.

I think it is low unless Stephens and Bush finish close to 50 vs hopefully (for them) 25ish. Hartmand or Quarzo I would put at 60-70 if they run well. So w/o Tyynismaa I think they can score 120-130 if they run well and I don't see FL/BYU/OSU that low.
If 3/4 are more like 100 total and 5th is >70 I guess they might slip from 2nd.
Per their individual runner rankings (roughly top 80) TSR would score BYU at 208, FL at 157 thru 4 runners w 5th >80 by definition, and OSU at 71 thru 3 runners with 4/5 >160 by definition. I see all 3 of those teams around 200.
Totally agree! What a bummer to remove the "good" part of the course. The hills, bridges, and trees made this course awesome. It would be a trash course if you just circled the open field as they are apparently doing now.
No kidding. The pairing of the flat open field with the rolling more “wooded” part of the course was cool, but remove the hilly part and it’s a crappy course. From ‘07-‘09 it was the toughest course I ran on during the high school season, but what made it tough also made it one of the best.
I would like to hear the case for one of BYU/FL/OSU scoring less than 150. Maybe I missed something?
Here is what happened at Regionals today (women):
NAU scored 39 points @ Mnt Regional while holding out their #2 and #3 runners from Nuttycombe.
BYU scored 59 points @ Mnt Regional while holding out their #2 and #5 and #6 runners from Big-12s.
NC State scored 52 points @ Southeast Regional while holding out their #2 and #3 and #5 runners from Nuttycombe while their AA transfer DNFd.
OK State scored 30 points @ Midwest Regional while holding out their #5 runner from Big-12s.
NAU and BYU and NC State are impossibly deep . . . NC State has the co-favorite . . . OK State has the best top-3.
Those are your 4 podium teams . . . all could score under 100 points . . . expect 2 of them will.
a contrary position: OSU won today convincingly with a tight spread but winning time was not that fast...can't see them close to 100 unless several come off the bench. I can't see BYU top 5 averaging 20th place either. Different # 1 every week I spose if everybody has that race next week....but nothing so far to show that. NAU on the surface looked very good but I saw a gap between Larkin and Upshaw (their 4th at Nutty). Can someone else fill that gap? They do have numbers. My guess NAU wins around 85-90, NC St 110-120, next 2 more like 150.
More to my point on BYU - here is my guess on top 20 team scorers. For BYU to score < 100 they pretty much need 4 runners to get onto this list, and at whose expenses?
Parker Valby Katelyn Tuohy Doris Lemngole Hilda Olemomoi Kelsey Chmiel Elise Stearns Olivia Markezich Maia Ramsden Taylor Roe Flomena Asekol Chloe Scrimgeour Gracelyn Larkin Margot Appleton Amy Bunnage Annika Reiss Billah Jepkirui Greta Karinauskaite Carmen Alder Sarah Carter Molly Born

The pro BYU squad believes Alder, Hutchins, Halladay and Frentheway are all even, so off of your list would finish 18 20 22 24 for 84 points.
Unlikely, but not crazy. Also team points will be a bit different not counting individuals. BYU also has solid 5-7 to produce a useful #5.

Exactly . . . I would replace "solid" with "exceptional" . . . but NAU & NC State can say the same . . . which is why it appears OK State is a tick below them due to the larger time spread between the #3 and #4-#7 runners.
At least pollsters should now realize FL, Georgetown, Stanford, etc . . . while having very good seasons . . . are simply not on the same level as these 4 teams . . .
Good lord, is that true? If so, that would make them the clear favorite. NC St, BYU, and OK State would be battling for 2nd.
Nau is now the favorite. If they just run to form they can win. Nc state needs season best performances from Bush and Tyynismaa making Stephens the #5. Certainly possible, but it's a stretch.

Agree NAU is favorite and have options for 4/5 runners. I did see today Upshaw (their 4th at Nutty) was 25 seconds back of Larkin vs about 7 at Nutty. Would have added 12 points to their score there. NC St getting Bush back probably takes 30 points off their score there (Gapes scored 50 as 5th). A total of 42 which is just about what difference was (52 vs 95). A small whole - not sure enough that NC St can jump on.
