It can be hard to care. Israel is a horrible country, with horrible people, who treat other people like animals and, worst of all, they are a lousy ally to the US. But on the flip side, you have Hamas and the rest of the psycho Islamic world committing inhuman atrocities against innocents and children, all in the name of Allah/Mohammed, etc. Disgusting people brainwashed by the world's only religion of death. So, you have to hope Israel prevails, but that's not saying much.
Any decent person cares about innocent civilians dying but a lot of people do become numb to it because it’s just seen as the normal and also if you didn’t somewhat numb yourself you would probably quickly sink into despair and depression. There are currently 32 ongoing conflicts in the world right now, ranging from drug wars, terrorist insurgencies, ethnic conflicts, and civil wars. Innocent people are dying in all of these situations.
I care about Ukraine because one sovereign country invaded another without provocation.
I don’t care about Israel/Palestine because this a war with 10,000 years of history, or more, and I have no chance of getting it right. I simply don’t have time to form an opinion.
Lies all lies. Besides it's just too darn depressing. Some of the stuff they are "advertising" did take place in the 1970s, 1980s, and etc. WE just did not know about it.
I try not to watch the news. It is all about the story the particular network wants to tell. At the large cable networks, it almost always focuses on negative stories because they sell better.
I still try to remain informed, but don’t get too bogged down on things I can’t control. Debating on social media is futile and unhealthy.
People can’t accept that life isn’t fair. I go on with making the best of my situation and providing for my family.
Ignorance is bliss. Imagine if you got a message straight to your phone immediately after a child was murdered with a picture and details. You would be more informed but also extremely depressed and enraged constantly from the dozens of messages a day. Guess what? Dozens of children are murdered every day but because people do not surround themselves with this information it does not negatively affect them.
Same goes with a conflict halfway across the globe. People who are obsessed with negative news that they can't do anything about are sad sad humans.
It isn’t 10,000 years old, even as a rhetorical exaggeration the conflict is much younger than any or most border disputes in the world. The Venezuela-Guyana “conflict” for example is older than the one in Palestine.

Perhaps LRCers should know about the debates against Zionism inside Jewish society. These are far from primordial issues, nor are people’s minds as made up as is made out here.
One should certainly pursue a balance that allows your inner light to fight against the darkness. But there’s beauty in growing a better garden in the world, and in finding people with whom to cultivate better ways of seeing and being in common.

12/8/23 Reuters just reported that US vetoed UN demand for a cease fire in Gaza for humanitarian purposes and CNBC just reported that US upped its demand to Israel to back off their attacks. Either the US gov't really doesn't have a clue and needs to shut up and take care of business at home or the reporting is incompetent, wondering which is true. In any case I'll bet that if combatants from both sides took up marathon training they'd be too tired to fight.

I'm sure that people in other countries watching the towers fall, shrugged their shoulders and turned off the TV too.
We KNOW people ignored the holocaust. Good Germans and all that.
I don't see how you can be a human being with a soul and not care about what is going on, and if you are American, how you can't be paying attention to our role in it.
1400 Israelis were killed and 200+ people including children are currently hostages. Now Israel is on the precipice of a of a full on genocide as a result. Thousands of lives are being destroyed and lost, and America has the power to--and is not--calling for a cease fire.
Whether Israeli, Palestinian, a New Yorker in 2001, a Kashmiri, a Uyghur, a Ukrainian, an Iraqi, an Afgani-- this could be you. You aren't free from one day becoming a disposable pawn for the powers that be. I say pay attention, care about what you are seeing.

Now 16,000 in Gaza are dead. Happy now? I'll pay attention to the news when we stop supporting suppressive regimes.
As horrific as Israel's bombing of Gaza and Hamas' attack on Israel is, it is nothing compared to the kind of slaughter that took place in the DRC civil wars. About six million people have been killed in these civil wars since fighting broke out in 1996 and about 7 million have been displaced. In Sudan, about 10,000 have been killed and 5 million displaced since the civil war reignited this year. The Yemen civil war has claimed about 150,000 lives in combat and another 200,000+ from disease and starvation.
Israel is at the center of everything because it is at the center of messianic prophecies of three major religions. If it was a small hamlet near Ghana, it might not even make the news.
