Well yes. But also currently clean 2:05 - 2:07 runners (and female equivalents) could be very tempted to start doping to win major marathons. They'd have a bit to lose but a lot more to win. See Cherono + Ekiru + Sumgong and so on. Sumgong for example got to keep all of her earnings, but then the career was over once caught. (Same goes for Houlihan, who had a couple of years with over $200,000 p.a.)

We are in 2023. When you expand your list to include 2022, and 2023, and include other nationalities, we see that excessive doping "at the top" is largely something a few people just want to believe.

- Note that Kipsang's "ban" did not involve drugs, nor any performances

- Cherono is still listed by the AIU as "provisionally suspended", and not banned

- Kenyan athletes are disproportionally targeted by both unscrupulous doctors/pharmacists/coaches looking to make quick money, as well as anti-doping.

It's curious that you think now is the moment to question performances, as if Ekiru represents the tipping point. Those who want to believe that East Africans have been doping for decades have raised this question decades ago. We already had a handful of 2:05 runners busted for doping, and what we are seeing now, in the era of new shoes, is a handful of 2:03 runners (rounding 2:02:57 to 2:03).

While bringing questions requires no intellectual burden, it does not bring us any closer to any answers. If you want to connect a doped 2:03 performance to other similar or faster performances, one of these asked but unanswered questions is whether a PED even exists, that can cause these elite marathon runners to run faster than clean training at altitude can.

I don't think there is a PED that can improve performance more than a couple percent, certainly not at microdosing levels that somehow escapes testing.

Unless testing is a lie and fake, ie. they do collection to make everything think something is being done but because of expense they don't actually do the lab work

HOWEVER, if there is a new PED out there, I would suggest looking at reports from thoroughbred racing, seriously not kidding, because that's where all the new stuff emerges as billionaires fund drugs that aren't even being mass produced anymore.

Of course microdosing works. It's been around for a while, there are studies.

Is that actually true, or did you make that up to score a point? Please post the five East Africans "busted for doping" before 2016, who ran faster than 2:05:30 as per your rounding rule.

That's over two minutes right there for microdosing, and those who are so bold to dope more (or can dope more because of their lenient NADO) can expect larger gains.

Lack of out of competition testing is also a fail.

Most of the dopers will never be caught by in competition testing, and can evade detection through microdosing and other means. It's so prevalent I don't know why this is even a debate anymore.
