NO, NO, NO. He needs to quit saying he is "in 2:07 shape." It appears he is not and never will be. He is a 2:10 marathoner. Nothing more. He runs about the same time as a lady WHEN he finishes a marathon wich is becoming increasingly rare. Please DO NOT, scott, say you are in 2:07 shape again. You are in DNF shape.
Actually he is neither an "in 2:07 shape marathoner" as he states or a 2:10 marathoner as you state. He ia a 2:08.xx marathoner. This concept is apparently hard for people for some reason.
Is Ryan Hall a 2:04 marathoner? No - of course not. He ran that at Boston which is not record-eligible. Throw out all of the 2:08s that Fauble ran at Boston - those don't count. He ran like 18 seconds faster than 2:10. THAT is what counts.
Good lord the marathon is humbling. Guy goes through a whole training block, tapering, fastest course in the world, perfect weather… drops out @ 18 miles. I’d be devastated, and it’s only a hobby for me. Can’t imagine what he’s goin through
He has a PERSONALITY PROBLEM. It's good he did not run well, it would have set a very bad example for him.
Whether you love or hate Fauble, this was a missed opportunity for the US. On to Chicago for American marathoners. I was hoping Faubs would nab an auto qualifier at Berlin, and two guys would nab the remaining to autos at Chicago and the qualifying situation would be taken care of this fall.

He needs to scale back his expectations. He is far away from becoming a 2:07 marathoner. He needs to go out at 2:10 or 2:11 pace and maybe pick up towards the end if he has anything left.

How can anyone like Fauble?
it's pretty wild that you think a normal, maybe boring dude who is sorta good at something is worthy of being universally disliked.

Ryan Hall's 2:04:58 was set with a 10-15 mile per hour tail wind, Fauble did not have that advantage at Boston. You should know and understand that, but we realize that you sir, are a big fat mo-ron who probably couldn't run himself out of a WalMart parking lot. The laugh is on you.
I think he must have been sick if he fell apart that early and was vomiting . It wasn’t like he tried to run with the leaders . 63:46 first half on a flat course in good weather shouldn’t have caused him to crash that soon.
Unless a 2:07:12 pace was too fast for a barely-under 2:10 guy?
You all act like months of training has no effect on a person. It's entirely possible to be in barely-under 2:10 shape at some time in the past (in Fauble's case, 2020) and some other, faster, shape now. And then let that newer, faster shape dictate your race times. Have you never PRed?
From what I saw on the tracker, he blew up and started walking soon after 25K, must've walked for five mins or so, then started running again, but gave up soon after 30K.
Bosshard does weekly lactate testing with Fauble. If he felt like he’s in 2:07 shape, he probably is. Vomiting isn’t necessarily indicative of blowing up, it’s just unfortunate that’s what we are assuming. And going out in 1:03 on a flat course shouldn’t be that crazy of a pace for him to run a 22min 5K. He should consider running Chicago depending on how he’s feeling.
That 2:04:58 fake time was aided by a net downhill, point to point and a massive 18 mi/hr tailwind. Running a smart well paced race with all those circumstances and you have no excuses to run a massive PR.
He should consider running Chicago depending on how he’s feeling.
Is this something that Fauble would consider? It'd be pretty sweet to add Fauble to the Chicago mix. If the conditions are good on race day it could be a solid day for Americans there. Previously, he said he hadn't planned on doing any fall marathons.

But he is in "2:07 shape" just like he has been for numerous times.

He tried to run a Marathon at his Half Marathon Pace. I’ve done this myself. It doesn’t end well.😂

If he did, I doubt he would run an A race.
I’ve seen a lot of runners do overly hard workouts, which is what that was, with two weeks to go, and they almost invariably come up flat on race day.
The “Trust your training” adage has a lot of value.
In a way it's comforting to know that even pros can run a marathon at a hot pace like I did and blow up at 20 miles like I did.
He started blowing up somewhere between 25-30k. That split was about 23min.
Yeah but there wasn't even a slow blow-up. Usually you fall off a little more each 5k split. It was 2:07 pace for every 5k until 25k then his day was over. He was throwing up/having stomach issues. That can happen when you get after it.
I get the jabs about being in 2:07 shape but if every NYC/Boston effort had been in Berlin/London his PB would be faster. I think, yes, 2:07. This was his first time going through halfway like this. He could have done this the last 3ish years & tried 5 or 6 marathons. He would have dropped something fast. Just use some common sense. It's like some of ya'll like seeing our top runners fail but then complain about how slow we are. Choose a lane. It's more fun to root for people instead of celebrating someone going backwards in a race, which we've all done before.
