Only the losers on this board could watch a woman finish 5th in the world and be such bitches on a thread
This seems a little harsh, mate. I wouldn't call the posters who say she's a "medal threat" after watching her get smoked on that last lap "losers" or "bitches." I'd say they are "homers," fans whose judgement is clouded by their love of their favorite.
Commentators mentioned the Africans "did not want her there"...hinting that they were blocking her as a strategy. Hell, even the former Ethiopian, Hassan, admitted in an interview that she blocked to make it hard on her [Tsegay] before she fell in the 10k.
The Africans will block and impede at championship meets as a team strategy. The Americans don't because they never run as a team most of the time.
To me, the idea that a few short, skinny Africans can out-physical a larger American runner is baffling to me. Either way, any contact takes away energy. It's a net negative for your race.
....
The commentators were correct in the Africans didn't want Alicia there trying to pass them and the reason is quite simple. They definitely know who is Alicia is just as the African men know who Grant Fisher but in both cases they know of the Americans but don't feel they are a threat to medal. They block them EVERY TIME as they feel they will just have to repass them when the real final kick start.
Alicia needs to remember the rule we all learned in college and some in high school...when you make a move you make it STRONG and DECISIVE or you don't make one til it is....

Fisher is significantly more of a medal threat than Monson will ever be. Remember Monson is still a minute slower than the best women, and has no kick. Fisher is the 7th fastest in history, only behind Cheptegei in terms of active runners.
Yes Fisher still needs to work on his kick but at least he's in the mix unlike Monson who is 60m back.
One example - look at the Kenyan at 30:37 in the race. She just sticks her arm straight out to impede Monson. That should be a DQ.
Quit whining. That's just racing. She was 5s slower than the leaders in the final lap. Until she fixes that, she has literally 0% chance of winning a medal
I don't see why both can't be true - Monson needs to work on her kick (or take another unprecedented leap) to truly contend for global medals, and clear rules infractions need to be punished regardless of whether or not they affect the final medal outcome.
She's bigger than the Ethiopian runners, so I fail to see how she could be pushed around them.
This is the most idiotic argument. It's not the NFL or WWE. There's no defense when someone shoves you into lane 3 or sticks their arm out to impede you. Yes, Monson can hockey check them off the track but then she gets DQ'd.
Her height or weight has literally nothing to do with it.

Ummm can we talk about who made the worlds team tbis year and who didn’t?? Monson made it. Fisher did not.
Do you know the year? It is not 1987. U.S. women have actually earned medals, 10000m at W.C. I am not knocking anyone competing at W.C., but celebrating 5th place? Really? Does this message board celebrate U.S. athletes who finish 5th, (100 to 400)m dash?
She has to know she was the first "legit" finisher, which must be a tough pill to swallow. She did great.
Wish the NACAC champs were bigger and better (like Euros). These clean Americans deserve more recognition.
Here we go again, I knew it wouldn't take long.
White American = Clean
Black Africans = Dirty
Nothing racists here, move along!
I think it’s more like
White = Clean
Black Africans = Dirty
Can’t think of Jakob, Kerr, Hoare, Klecker, Fisher, McSweyn, Rupp etc. or any of the white girls (especially cute darlings like Femke or Keely) ever accused of doping; and black Americans mostly kinda get a pass, but black Africans are a suspicious species around here.

Of course she is going to have less energy on the last lap when the Africans are SHOVING her.
She would speed up, get shoved and slow down, then have to speed up again. That has a massive energy cost.
Now that she has the endurance to be there at the bell lap, she just needs a year to work on her speed.
As everyone knows, speed is inborn. What she needs is more stamina.

Im pretty sure all the athletes you just named are dopers. Some are very obvious.
Monson ran a phenomenal race to get 5th in the 10k at the 2023 World Championships. She was a legit contender.
The Ethiopians and Kenyans impeded her multiple times in the last mile. Even when she had plenty of room to pass, they would move over and stick their arm out to impede Monson. She tried to make her move several times but the Africans just shoved her to the side. Unfortunately this cost her too much energy and drained her for the last 400.
If she learns to be more aggressive and not get pushed around so easily she could be a medal threat in 2024.
You people are NOT serious!
Yourself and the guy who posted right after you, gopro2.
The Ethiopians won. I am KEnyan and I am happy for them. They won!
How do you impede someone in a 25 lap race?
This is NOT the 800m where a little stumble costs you the race.
She had an entire last lap to mix it up with the rest.

This is exactly right. It was a slow tactical race. They were protecting their position.
Monson has a monster engine but needs to develop her kick as many have said. She was with the leaders with 300 meters left, but the medalists all ran the final 300 meters in 43.7 or faster while Monson ran 47.6. Tsegay ran 42.6 while taking 3 elbows to the chest from Hassan.
I was rooting for Monson but knew she had no chance on the last lap. Simply not enough speed. Yet.
