Would you rather we commented on her hair and lip gloss?
I think it’s weird because she is a child. Just a highschool athlete. She has grown men starting threads about her on the internet and talking about her muscles and her body. Is that not strange?
No, it’s not, but this tired complaint that keeps coming up is meritless on a running site where folks are equal opportunity body gossipers towards all athletes irrespective of gender, race, ethnicity, sexual preference, or age.
What’s wrong with grown men talking about a high school girl’s body anyway? Is it okay if grown women do it? Because they do too.
The way she cranks out 11.0x performances like hotcakes, I would guess that she has more performances under 11.10 than all other high school athletes combined...as a junior class runner. Maybe someone has the stats for this?

Runners who make the finals in the US trials for the 100m and 200m are the elite of the elite. Track fans care about those kind of athletes. In the distances, we talk about Birnbaum and the Youngs as well. That is because we like to see the "next generation" of stars as they are progressing. That development is interesting and part of the fun of being a track fan.
As long as people aren't commenting on a kid's looks or posting mean/rude comments, I don't think there is a problem. Almost all the comments here are respectful and relate to how sprinters develop (lean body mass, strength, form, etc.).
Can we maybe stop bodyshaming kids!? Imagine this was your daughter and a bunch of strangers were commenting on her 'not skipping leg day' on the internet
Based on current age and body type I'll speculate that MBP's success will be short lived. She does have incredible turnover and speed, but I doubt she makes it much past 1-2 years of college success.

But the whole thread (with a few exceptions) is supportive and complementary. "Not skipping leg day" is a massive complement. How is saying, "This kid is awesome" a form of shaming?
