Easy answer. Athing Mu will run a nice comfortable first round, not qualify for the next round, fulfill her USATF obligation, then go home and get ready for the 800 at Worlds.
Everyone is so stuck on the 1500 thing they have blinders on. What is the purpose of going out and running a slow 1500 instead of a slow 800?
By "Everyone" you really mean only one person, Bobby Kersee.
None of us are stuck on Athing Mu running the 1500 at USA's. This thread was only started to say that Bobby Kersee had decided to enter Mu in the 1500. We aren't the ones advocating for her to the run the 1500 at USA's, only Kersee is.

And what is the point of this? Why go jog a 1500 when she can pretty much jog a 2:00 round 1 of the 800, get the win for show and call it a day. Everyone is so stuck on the 1500 thing they have blinders on. What is the purpose of going out and running a slow 1500 instead of a slow 800? The only reason to run the 1500 would be to actually run it and see where she is at, running it just to fulfill the obligation to compete makes absolutely no sense.
Possible answer is that her streak at 800m is part of her brand promotion. At 1500 she has nothing much to lose as long as she doesn't drop out like she did at that indoor mile...

And as you have already been told numerous times, she is not running the 1500, just like she didn't run the 1500 when her name was on the list for the Music City Track Meet. Names on lists don't = entries into races. She's not running the 1500 because there is no logical or illogical reason for her to do so. Everyone knows she has to run at USAs to fulfill the "compete" obligation and everyone expects her to jog. Trying to get into the 1500 field and take someone's (#36 on the list) spot and then run it slowly when she could do the same in the 800 is even too idiotic for Kersee. If she actually runs the 1500 someone needs to do a well check on Kersee immediately.

There is no one in the USA fit enough for her streak to by in jeopardy.
The bottom line is, none of us know what she is going to do because her team have not explicitly said.
She has to run one event, we know that, and we also know that she does not have to run all the rounds, she just needs to enter and prove her fitness.
She can run either the 800m or the 1500m, the latter because of her position in the ranking, NOT because she is the defending World Champion over 800m (you CANNOT just enter any event because you have the BYE as World Champion in another event!)
As for what she will actually run...I genuinely have no idea. In her post race interview at NYC, she didn't convince me that the 1500m was a real option. Either that, or she REALLY doesn't want to run it. The fact that Kersee has mentioned it and her name is on there doesn't mean much though. As with most posters, at this stage it makes sense for her just to run the first round of the 800m. She gains nothing by running an extra 700m other than to potentially expose her lack of fitness.

I think she will run the 1500, and take it seriously. Sit back in a tactical race and run the last 800 sub-2 or sit back in a fast heat and blast last 200. Something that may actually have value re 800.
The OP did not say that Mu is entered into the 1500, they said Mu is running the 1500. Again, nowhere does it say that.
The nitpicky poster is in fact correct.
Mu is entered in 1500. Usatf must now accept her entry, and then Mu must declare for the event. Then she is 99% of the way to running, as she still has to get to startline.
Sadly, I agree with poster who said she will cruise 1 round of 1500, not q, and be done. It's classic Kersee for her to do the absolute bare minimum to cash in her world wild card.

Nowhere does that say that Mu is running the 1500, it merely states a mark for her 1500, which ironically is non-qualifying. No declarations have been made so exactly zero athletes are entered into events at this stage.
ok I can play the game. Given that her "mark" for the 1500 is listed under "Status of Entries" I think one can reasonably infer she has in fact submitted an entry (prior to the "entry deadline"). Of course at this time noone "is" running the 1500 as the races have not started yet (nor had they been at the time of this post). Nor of course has any "entry" been accepted.
Anyone know if she has adjusted her training? Reason she failed in that last 1500 attempt was because of aerobic fitness. Foot speed obviously isn’t the problem. She hung with the leaders for the first 800 and then fell off.
Unless she has upped the mileage considerably, I don’t see a different result.
I'm pretty sure that USATF (presented by Nike) has discretion for cases like this. I know the #27 runner (Nike) once was added to it despite not having run a qualifying time that season (although he ran it before), so it was easier to allow him and also #26 and #25 in.

Mu was asking after her New York if she had adjusted her training, and she said no, she is still only training for the 800 and not doing any 1500 training at all.
If the semifinal round is easy and then the final somehow turns into a repeat of Centro’s race in the 2016 Olympic final, then Mu would win the 1500 final. She would not have the standard to go on to the WC in that event, not that she wants to anyway.
The problem with this plan is that all the other women in the 1500 surely know what kind of closing speed Mu would have off a slow pace.

Mu has no interest in winning the 1500 at USA's.
If she wasn't required by USATF to run an event there, she wouldn't even bother going to USA's at all.
I know Athing is taking this year slightly easier schedule wise, but I get the feeling that she is actually in/going to be in 1:55 low shape at Worlds and that Bobby's shenanigans are just trying to mind-game Keely and co. to subconsciously make them take their foot off the gas. Hope Keely is focusing on herself!
