SIMEON MF BIRNBAUM!!!!

Great for Simeon, but when I think what Jeff Nelson did in 1979 (only 2 seconds slower), I feel like the time should be faster - like, a lot faster!

It would have been faster . . . if Simeon was in an open/professional race and got pulled along by college/Olympic-caliber runners such as those who faced Nelson at the 1979 Pepsi Invite as well as Lukas V at the 2011 Pre Classic.

Riley, Pre, Virgin and Fernandez all set their US HS 2 Mile records in hs-only races . . . the latter two in hot, humid conditions. What could they have done in set-ups similar to Jeff and Lucas's races?

Just an opinion:

Lucas V's 8:29 2 mile is the highest quality US hs boys track record on the books . . . in part because it is still so superior to the next-best time (Simeon's 8:34) . . . but also because the event is not run very often outdoors . . . and hardly ever on the open/collegiate/professional scene.

1:46 and 3:53 are both definitely better than 8:29
