Looks like he crushed several has-been Oles including our second favorite Joe Coffey.
Not enough has been said about the imposter Joe Coffey. I like the direction of this thread
1) Joe Coffey
2) Joe Coffey
3) Joe Coffey
Honestly, it was pretty close and I went back and forth on 2/3 for some time, but I think this is the correct ranking. Obviously, I felt compelled to include the wrestler in the rankings, because he’s Joe Coffey. I excluded Joe Coffee because while both words are synonymous with coffee, it’s not really Joe Coffey.
That being said, obviously Joe Coffey will be the first Miac finisher of the bunch this fall.
Where would Olaf Coffey rank in the Joe Coffey rankings? 33rdish?

So at least 1 Olaf at St. Olaf, bunch of johns (first name and/or prostitute solicitors) at St. John’s, lots of Mary’s at St Mary, Kate’s and Catherine at St. Kates, so what’s the deal with St. Benedict? Not one Benedict there, not even a Ben to be found. And don’t get me started on St. Scholastica.
Who is this transfer? I'm calling BS on this. The Oles must be bored.
Good luck to the MIAC distance 🐐 Matt Wilkinson at USA’s! Joel smith is also scheduled to compete in the 400 hurdles

Yes, I was surprised this wasn't mentioned anywhere else. Congrats to Wilkinson, running the race of the life for 6th place in the Steeplechase final in a PB of 8:23.69, just behind heavy hitters Anthony Rotich and Mason Ferlic.
He certainly made the best use of his remaining eligibility at Minnesota, placing 8th in 2022 NCAA Div I championships where Kenneth Rooks was 6th, and moving up to 5th this year.
From what I could tell, Wilkinson ran three full track seasons at Carleton, so how was he able to be eligible for an additional two at Minnesota?
Anyway, congrats to him, one of the biggest accomplishments of an MIAC runner. I know a few have made it to US championships, but that's probably the highest placing. Jennifer Tonkin of Macalester placed 10th in the US Marathon Championship/Olympic Trials in 2000 in 2:40:31, just behind the legendary Joan Samuelson.
Since Mac was 4th last year, and didn't lose any key scorers, I think it would be fair to say they have a solid chance at 3rd, given the huge leaps of improvement not just from 1500 champ Tor Olsson, but also Reece McKee (9:18 ST) and Ben Crotteau (14:52). Ihrke was great in the indoor 5000 championship, but must have been banged up outdoors. If he's healthy, then that's an excellent top 4, with Tyler Edwards leading a pretty deep pack for a potentially solid 5th.
I understand people writing MAC off -- whenever it seems everything will come together, a key runner or two goes off for the junior study abroad semester, transfers, or something else. When I ran, we had a transfer from Baylor with a 1:50 800 PR, but dropped out of the Conference meet because he decided he preferred swimming. :/ I believe they haven't placed higher than 4th since possibly 1969 (there's missing data for 1970, and 1972-77 for MIAC championships.
In 2021 Outdoors, Div. 3 did not meet a total participatory threshold among member institutions (not sure the exact numbers behind this, but i know SCIAC/NESCAC didn't compete, as well as some others). this allowed Div. 3 runners (no D1/2) to get an additional season of outdoor eligibility.

Omniscient
Looking at Mac's XC roster from 2022, it's interesting to see how they only had two guys from Minnesota, with neither contributing in XC. Makes me wonder about the makeup of other teams

Macalester and Carleton both have 81% of their students coming from outside Minnesota, which I think is quite a bit higher than any other MIAC schools.
minnesotans vs non minnesotans would be an interesting race. Bati boone lloyd carter grove dewall vs whoever northfield combined top 5 ends up being probably.
unfortunately on the womens side minnesotans would get crushed.
side note most slept on minnesotan is clearly getinat. he gets into any team's top 5.
Intel suggests Ihrke of Macalester was caught by spiders heading into the outdoor season. The fact he was able to run… beyond me
I heard it was some sort of stinging insect
Getinat is definitely one of the better mid-distance runners in the conference, but he lacks range, barely dipping under 27 in XC. There's no way that would be top 5 on any of the top teams. If this were track, there'd be case for Getinat being slept on. But it's not

I don’t know, but if he’s putting in the mileage this summer who knows. A 3 sec drop in the 800 is 30 sec over 5 miles.
Most mid-d guys don’t like the mileage though so I’m not awarding him all-conference in xc just yet.
