If it was a soft record it wouldn't be standing for 26 years.
nobody said it was soft. Just softer than others WR.
That said, I have never seen a two miles in my whole life, whether on TV or in a local meet. Outside of the US, nobody races 2 miles, so easier to keep the record.

Yeah the only time the Two Mile is run at the pro level is usually the Pre Classic, which ends up being tactical as it is often windy and early in the season.

Has the advantage of the best tracks, best shoes, best supplements, best training, best facilities and still won’t run within 5 seconds (if he’s lucky). Predict he runs 8:05-:10.
A good pacer could get to 1 mile, a great pacer to 2k. We'll see who they get.
Are his brothers still fit enough to do this?
I think that’d be really cool if they tried to help pace him, Filip just ran 3:39 so he should be able to make it a mile, Henrik ran 13:14 so he can make it a K? I mentioned earlier that it depends on pacing and someone replied the lights will pace him. The lights will help keep the pacing even but having someone to draft off help way more.
Outside of his brothers, who is a capable and more importantly proven pacer at this level?
Seems too long for Sowinski. Callum Davies paced at Doha through 1200 @ 3:01 but he is Aus champ at 1500 & 5k so he’ll surely have his own goals of making worlds. A Kenyan, Munguti, brought Doha through 2k in 4:58.
They had 3 pacers for Girma’s 3000m WR including Tom Elmer who recently ran 3:35

Hey in case he can't get the 2 mi record can they take an official 3200 split so he can set the 3200 world record? The HS kids would go nuts seeing that.
letsrun posters, most are amateurs at best, and basement dwellers in abundance, however the people that vote up and down, and contribute to polls, that is the info that is useful, and not only that, quite consistent with reality.
i'd like to see more polls.
should mention that guys like malmo, canova, and people that have been there and done it, are most appreciated. they should be paid or given tickets, shoes, shirts.
that would be a proper good move.
they might post more.
and make the thing more readable, and offset the trolls, who have a problem with a guy that wins the 1500 go in 328...
I mean you would think that the real 3200 record is just whatever Komen passed through 3200 during his 2 mile WR of 7:58. Give maybe like 2-3 seconds time conversion for those last 18 meters and maybe the 3200 m "world record" is like 7:55-7:56.

Yeah, that would be cool! And Filip will be better day by day (being in a recovery process). His pbs are 3.30.01 and 7.34.0. Henrik: 3.31.46 and 7.36.85 (2000m: 4.53). But another teammate of Jakob is Narve Gilje Nordas (Coached by Gjert Ingebrigtsen) -he just did 3.34 and got an even better potential in the 3000m / 2 miles (he paced Jakob to his European record in the 2000m some three years ago)…
There is no "two mile world record." It's not soft (because Komen) but it's a dead distance.
Haters gonna cope, copers gonna hate, but here's how it is: top elite starts shooting for these off-records, they are over the shark. Shows they know it's all they can get.
Lots of women could go after the 2-mile WB. Even setting aside Ma's Army, it's 40 seconds slower than Hassan's 8:18. Nobody bothers, it's beneath them.

What I like with Jakob is that he is confident but realistic. He knows what he is able of what he cannot achieve. He is not going ot say "I go for 7:19" because he knows he can't do it atm and probably never.
So it's smarter to try at a distance where he has a shot, even if there is less prestige. Maybe later, if he keeps improving and with more confidence, he can try 3000 or 1500 WRs but everybody knows they are crazy tough to beat.
You would prefer that he does Arewagi style, going for Komen 3000 WR with 0% chance and fading in 7:26?
On the 9th of June, Jakob will try to beat Komen 7:58 according to an article on FFA (french track and field federation) website, with the help of wavelight for the first time in Paris.

Good thread! But you misspelled Ingebrigtsen (“Ingebrigsten”). And you did the most common misspelling of this name on LRC (“Ingebritsen” being the second most common). Well, I don’t think this is a serious thing at all -it’s a difficult name both to write and pronounce… (Not at all difficult for us Norwegians, or Swedes, Danishes, or most people from Iceland and Finland, but for anybody else)… But to me it seems that misspellings of this name is so common that it can be hard to know what’s the correct version ( Jakob even once ran a Diamond league race with the misspelled “Ingebritsen” on his stomach! )
So therefore some “schooling”: The correct spelling is I-N-G-E-B-R-I-G-T-S-E-N. And this is how you divide the name into three meaningful pieces: INGE - BRIGT - SEN (The first piece “Inge” meaning / referring to “angel”, the second “brigt” meaning “bright, shiny, famous”, the last “sen” meaning “son of”: “Son of a bright famous angel”).
Further etymology (see Wikipedia): Ingebrigt is a man’s surname, not Norwegian in root, but German (“Engelbrecht” -shiny angel). The “sen” part in Ingebrigtsen would in old norse be “son” (Sweden and Iceland have kept this ending, so there it would be “Ingebrigtson” -Norwegian and Danish have “sen”, but as mentioned meaning son of). It’s the same in English/ American, f.ex Andersson / Andersen meaning son of Anders…
English is heavily influenced by Norwegian. Core words like “man”, “head”, “arm”, “face”, “eat”, “hair”, “like”, “you”, “are” and many, many more are “stolen” from Norwegian, but given a french pronunciation -us Norwegians understand therefore English quite well, but our pronunciation sucks (The Swedes are even worse!)…
Some help (spelling / pronunciation of Ingebrigtsen): Inge (The “I” of course pronounced as “i” in the word “in”.) brigt (as mentioned this piece means bright -one have to remember to skip the “h” in the Norwegian written version, but in the pronunciation this “h” will do no harm -the problem is that you have to use the old English pronunciation -without the french vowel sound- the “i” in brig(h)t has to be pronounced likewise as in “bring”. And then you just add “sen” (not “sten” -in Norwegian that means stone).
There are two main reasons for the misspellings of Ingebrigtsen, and here Norwegians are most to blame, because our pronunciation sounds often like “Ingebritsen” or “Ingebrigsten”… But I don’t think Jakob is offended -we all need some good laughs, and I’m not sure Jakob can spell Cheruiyout without hesitating….
As a Norwegian I keep on laughing then foreigners do their best to pronounce Jakob in Norwegian. Well, most do this very well, so what’s hilarious is that all this effort is unnecessary: Norwegians are cool with English pronunciation of their surnames (especially with a common name like Jakob / Jacob); some years ago Henrik, Filip and Gjert always used the English version in English interviews; now they too are forced to say Jaaaakob…!
In September Jakob is being married to his girlfriend Elisabeth Asserson. Fun fact is: Jakob is going to claim her last name as a part of his own: Jakob Asserson Ingebrigtsen. -I don’t know if Asser got any etymological meaning in Norwegian (other than the obvious -Asserson means son of Asser), but one can of course associate a lot in English….! (But in Swedish it means “joyful, blessed, responsible)…
At last (so my post want be too short) we’ve got Jakob / Jacob. -I don’t think nordic or English version is that important, but the Jacob can sometimes confuse with Jacob Kiplimo and Jacob Krop….
Ok -I have tried to explain as good as I can. -I’m quite good in Norwegian (my native language) but English is sort of not even my second language, and then I was young English wasn’t taught as a communication tool in Norwegian schools…. (But we old people read English quite well).

Jakob will for sure prioritize Oslo, and his goal will be to PB in the 1500 (like he PBed in the mile event last year). All this talk of records early in the season is just for selling tickets.
Jakob will not blow his form on some silly 2 mile record attempt.

Thats wrong. Outside of US high schools no one races 3200m.
