No, not amazing. Can we be honest? Most people would say that a failure to break 15 is a failure tonight. Touhy is held to a higher standard.
Failure seems harsh but I would say "B" Grade. She did not have a kick for the last two laps.
After Wake Forest and the Monti interview indicating 15:09 target I had a feeling she might not break 15 this race. She doesn't seem to quite have the spark from indoors. She bested both Galvan and Henes at Millrose but was 13 seconds behind them here which was surprising to me.
I’m not familiar with Galvan but Henes seems to be more of a 5k/10k type of runner with a lot of strength. She recently ran a huge 10k PR. Tuohy is a 1500/5k runner. Tuohy has a faster mile PR by several seconds and a slightly faster 3k PR than Henes. That may explain this.
Henes (who I’m a big fan of - absolutely not trying to disrespect in any way) also has the advantage of being a full time pro athlete not a student-athlete and the advantage of training at altitude. Maybe they will be teammates in Flagstaff in the future.

Yeah, they’ve become friends. I’m pretty sure when Tuohy makes her decision that will play heavily into that. Friends w/ Henes, in Flagstaff, staying with Adidas.
In the meantime, I’m REALLY hoping she stays in college, keeps developing, breaking records, etc. (she can always do meets like these for higher-level competition).
Had a lot on her mind and she felt thankful that people like Elly Henes, etc at the meet helped keep her mind off the meet before-hand and just have fun with the experience.
And then of course the obvious, traveling to the west coast where its 3 hours earlier than what you’re used to, etc. Example: When she finally ran tonight (at 7:30-ish, it was already 10:30-ish in what her body is accustomed to).

Actually even worse...it was 11:30pm Raleigh time, when she would normally be sleeping.

Yeah, that would be like me running a PR at 10:00pm when I’ve been accustomed to already being asleep for about an hour. I don’t see that happening. So many things change (like when she would have slept, napped, eaten lunch, dinner, etc.
bottom line, she raced her best race she could on that day but I do think she’s still well capable of running the 5k in the 14:50’s on her best day right now!

While many of this board love to hate, she broke the record and looked great doing it.
One of the reasons she gives me so much hope for her future in USATF, is she continues to make small improvements. How many athletes have we seen fall off since crazy times in high school.

Tough to do and she pulled it off!
Joselyn Brea, who ran a huge PR to finish second, is from Venezuela.

Travel is a requirement for an elite runner. Imagine being Cory McGee and traveling across 10 or so time zones and then trying to race Faith Kipyegon. That's what Tuohy has to look forward to as a pro.
She managed 3 to win NXN titles on the West Coast in HS. I don't think she is the fragile flower you make her out to be.
