Looks like the last leg turned into a kicker's race ... 12:04 after 3 legs with sub-16 still on the table and the anchors run 4:10s. Nova wins in 16:14.03. Very disappointing after the hype. I have no idea what the conditions were, but other guys ran pretty fast on the first 3 legs. I think Gary Martin ran 3:58.
What folks fail to get, I guess..is that unless some team is so clear of the field, they are not going to give themselves up for some record others want to see..every guy on that anchor can run 3:56 or better..most likely, the guy that goes for it will almost sure get rundown, off the leading effort..like it or not
If anyone is to be criticized and I thought this could happen is UW, running 3 3;58=4:00.x: miles in front of Waskom..They were the only team capable of TTing(off their PRs) this on paper, and they did not. Murphy alone is a 7:45 and 3:55 miler, who moved too early yesterday or Nova wins both. No team is running sub 16 there, Not in my opinion, today was the day, and no. And in the Cheserek year, they only needed 3:56 or so as well..maybe '55.
Flotrack has no clue or intel on who the guys running actually are. How they let guys do a DMR call that do not know the difference between Murphy on anchor vs O'Donavan, just are not around the sport at all, and have no clue. Not fair to them or the viewers. I should have done this. Cade Flatt? I presume another 48.x leg in his portfolio? It ain't looking any better for him. Good race, I though Murphy went all in..just a little early, but was gonna get covered up if he did not.
It's quite possible they were using the names listed on the live results website, which aren't the most up to date as the relay cards are not entered until the meet is over.
You almost have to have someone on a walkie talkie or headset at the check in table to confirm relay teams, which is what the networks do for TV meets. That said, I've seen broadcasts get burned because teams will switch order while they walk from the clerking area to the track.
The officiating has been questionable at this meet. About half the Javelin kids javelins didn't meet inspection. Kind of odd since most kids use the same javelins at meets and didn't have any issues at previous meets.
Translation: They have been using illegal implements all season.
Nothing questionable about the officiating. The fact is high school track meets RARELY ever have implement inspectors, and, if they do, all they do is weigh the implement. There is a process for each implement, especially the javelin. The javelin inspection is a 22-point inspection that takes up 6-1/2 pages in the Implement Inspector Handbook.
I don't know who the implement inspector is at Penn but I have met several who work at the collegiate level and above and they are very good and very thorough.
He also ran 48.3 or 48.4 on DMR yesterday, he seems to have zero explosiveness, I have seen a few races,,and unless he is still hurt, which if he is , as a scholarship runner he should not be. running in races.or..he simply is not fit enough. I always thought it would be a stretch for him to run faster than HS, he is not training like an 800/15 guy..and he simply is not fast enough to really be a 400/800 guy. I think some forget that if I am correct ..Michael Granville only ran faster , once? Than his HS mark? I think. Not many , I know that.

These were collegiate athletes. You can't tell me that a javelin a kid has used at 6 meets and passes doesn't pass at this meet. You can't tell me 6 we're wrong and one correct. Sounded like the inspection crew had some mis calibrated equipment.
