Because it’s relaxing. And the adverse effects are short term at worst for a majority of people who use. Why do a majority of top paid athletes use alcohol, caffeine, etc. in competition? Lame argument move on.

IMHO, suspending athletes for marijuana use is idiotic. Why not suspend them for coffee? How about having a beer, maybe a pepsi? And if they meditate? Lifetime suspension! No farting either.

Considering what happened to Richardson in 2021, I have a hard time believing that an athlete can be this reckless. She and her boyfriend are online “influencers” so I wouldn’t be surprised if she did this for attention. Probably increase their followings. Any press is good press after all.

As stupid as these pot bans are, the US really has only itself to blame as it has been one of, the not THE leader, in keeping it on the banned substance list. After Sha'Carri Richardson received her ban, some Congressmen wrote to WADA asking to overturn her ban, and WADA pointed out this fact.

"I should point out that the Prohibited List currently in force was unanimously recommended by the HMR Committee and unanimously approved by WADA’s Executive Committee in September 2020. Further, at no time since the first Prohibited List was published in 2004 has WADA received any objection from U.S. stakeholders concerning the inclusion of cannabinoids on the Prohibited List. On the contrary, as has been reported by some media, the U.S. has been one of the most vocal and strong advocates for including cannabinoids on the Prohibited List. The meeting minutes and written submissions received from the U.S. over nearly two decades, in particular from USADA, have consistently advocated for cannabinoids to be included on the Prohibited List."

Maybe it's time to ask why USADA and/or US representatives at WADA haven't been pushing harder to get it de-listed as a banned substance.

I thought she was just being stupid and reckless but you are probably right. After Richardson received her ban the outcry that followed resulted in her gaining a huge audience would not put it past her

No, the clearance to accepted level is ~48 hours. This is not like a work drug test.

It is my hope that a future supreme court decision can reverse this trend of states allowing rec marijuana use. Drunk driving is already a horrible problem in the US and pot will only make things worse. Perhaps someone will come up with a breathalyzer for pot. i hope it is again outlawed on the national level.

If it's a rule you have to follow the rule. If you don't like the rule, then try to get some sort of public opinion to help influence a rule change. If I think the speed limit on my road is too slow it doesn't mean I can just drive the speed I think it should be. Another dumb rule is high schoolers can't compete in their state high school meets if they race collegiate or professional races. But it is a rule so you have to follow it until you work to get the rule changed.
