What's wrong with running in South Dakota? Birnbaum has far, far lower levels of competition and coaching than in Southern California, as well as difficult winter conditions. Young has had, I've always maintained, pro levels of coaching and the best teammates of any high school distance runner in history by far and many occasions to run in perfect conditions nearby, as at Mt. Sac. So, the Youngs are more developed, not to say fully developed, than Birnbaum. Hence, I see more improvement ahead for Birnbaum, who was already faster as a junior than the Youngs have run thus far in the mile, than for the Youngs. Just as Nico improved, so will they. But Birnbaum will be a strong pro. My last prediction for that was Cooper Teare after I saw a video of him in hs.
Simeon's grandfather was a 4:09 miler back in the 70's and a smart runner. I bet a decent amount of grandpa's racing/training knowledge have been past down thru conversations. And Dad, Paul B. also ran so Simeon has much guidance to follow.
