If the record is 15:49, could UW get it? They have 8 guys, all sub-4 and the best are in the low 3:50s. You "only" need to average 3:54-3:55 to get the record.
It seems like they might have had a better chance this winter than the Duck Alumni do right now. Shoulda, coulda gone for it!

Going for the 4 x mile WR might be a moot point, since World Athletics doesn't recognize the event (only recognize 4x1, 4x2, 4x4, 4x8, 4x15, road relay & DMR), so they can take a shot at the world best.
Will they get tested if they break the listed world best?

I’d say it’s not quite as easy as you’re making it out to be. Many of the legs are run solo. 4 times on a windy backstretch gets really old.
Bro, it’s 3:57.5 with super shoes. That is not an impressive mile time for professional milers in 2023. I don’t care if they have to run alone - oh no! I wonder if there will be pace lights?
Regardless, if the three pros can’t break 3:57.5 they are in trash shape. I don’t really care about the fourth guy - except for maybe Charlie hunter - as they are not real professionals.

The record is 3:57.27 x 4. To break it, you would need 3:57.27 x 3 and a 3:57.26, for example. Or at any rate you need to average something less than 3:57.27 to break it. Just offering facts myself and not commenting on the level of difficulty. It would be difficult as hell for most runners. Now could there be a college team that could threaten this? Possibly. I cannot rule it out.

But what I'm wondering is what happened to this being a big pro meet with $100k in prize money and travel support? A few months ago, we were told the Brooks Beasts were coming as was the University of Washington. I assumed the 4 x mile WR would fall as a result.
I just went to the UW site and don't see anything on it. Did they pull out? Are they going to Penn? What about the Beasts?
