Lindgren had some crazy fast 4 mile at Mt SAC too which he posted about on LRC. He just never peaked at the right time. Certainly would have had gold in 64 if he had not stepped in a hole during a legendary training session in Tokyo. Kind of like Cade Flatt in that way.
We went thru this on a Touhy post. Conversions don't count for records, but en route does if it gets an official time. Chapa would have 10k record, Lindgren most likely has 6 mile record still.
While Chapa had a remarkable career, Lindgren's was even better. Hs records, 3 x NCAA xc, beating Russians etc.
He got smoked by Gorze and only ran 14 flat a month ago. 0 chance he breaks this record.
Like I told y’all. What’s concerning though is he’s over a second slower than what he ran last year. I thought he’d at least be better after another year of training.
Honestly rooting for him to take down the record but didn't they brag about how he was in 13:20 shape last fall? Conveniently now that he's actually racing on the track they move the goalpost to 13:30
IIRC, Sean Brosnan said it, not Leo or Lex. I just want to see Lex's fitness back to where it was last year (13:43) and then hopefully he'll stay healthy and run well in May and June.
Yes Brosnan did say it. And I immediately bashed him or saying it because-
A] it wasn't true
B] it put too much pressure on them making it seem like if they didn't easily break 13:30 by springtime then they were going backwards and underachieving.
I agree. To those who say - and many have posted here - that it is a soft record and trivial for any top HS mid-D runner, I say 'let's see them do it.' Rupp, who was better at 10k than 5k or anything shorter, tried it while still elegible for HS records. He didn't come close. Neither have any of the NP alumni including Nico. If they could pretty easily break it while Seniors, they could very easily break it as college Freshman after an entire year training specifically for 10k. None have.
Nico hasn't even run a 10,000 yet, so not sure what you are saying
Exactly. At least one Sahlman and one Young are out of high school, right? Some, possibly including you, believe it would have been a mere formality for either (or their younger brothers) to have broken Chapa's record as Juniors and absolutely destroy it as Seniors. They just needed to 'find a race'.
Well, in the NCAA, 10000 races are easy to find. Every Conference Meet has one. The NCAA Champs has one. There are many others they have the option of entering. What are you waiting for, Nico? If you could have done it 3 years ago, it should be no problem whatsoever now.
By the way, Sound Running holds 10000s in their locale, so there really is no excuse not to run one while high-school-record-elegible. None of the Newbury Park crowd has the record for the following reason:
They can't do it. They are slower than high school Rupp over 5k. They certainly are over twice the distance. They don't seem to be able to do it even while in college!

you mean the one that he claimed to have run in 16:04?

The fact that Nico hasn't run a 10K yet doesn't mean he won't do it or doesn't want to do it. He's running for an NCAA team, not just for himself. In laying out his schedule he and his coach look to find the right fit for both him & the team. If the circumstances are right he'll be entered in a 10K. As for the kiddos neither has mentioned doing a 10K this season. Their focus is on the 1500/mile/2 mile/5K. They have more flexibility than Nico since they're no longer running for a team. That said, they and their coach will pick the races according to their fitness levels, the competitive fields in the races, the location and conditions for the meet, and their perceptions of a race's importance. I think we'll see them in post regular season races, but which ones are hard to know, although I could see Leo lining up in the Brooks mile because it looks like they're trying to get just about all of the top guys.

Because nobody cares about the HS 10000m record. Nobody in HS runs it. There is no reason to unless you are trying to make a national team. They could also go for the HS marathon record, but why would they?
