Seems like Schumacher is utilizing the old Oregon approach: XC is a big prep season, Indoors doesn't even exist, Outdoors is everything.
Bowerman did that.
Dellinger did that.
Maybe Uncle Phil wants it that way again?
This is the dumbest thing I have read here recently. Bowerman/Dillinger haven't coached UO for literally decades and times change - them not sending teams would be unacceptable nowadays. Lanana and Johnson won indoor titles off of the backs of the distance squad (squads that was also winning individual indoor/outdoor titles and both team/individual XC titles mind you).
The UO AD is not stupid enough to accept a new coach intentionally putting forth non-competitive teams or skip an entire sport in which their predecessors WON and have som as recently as two years ago in the hope they will do well outdoors. They'd never let that plan happen. Literally, it'd be Jerry saying "Put me in charge and I will be, at most, half as successful as my two predecessors." Absolutely insane to suggest this.
Harrison is burned from competing at high level as youth, it’s been obvious for years. he was lucky to break 4 last year, he will never go much faster than that.
I think Oregon will likely not be placing an emphasis on indoor track. Especially with no indoor conference meet there is really no pressure on the distance athletes to go time chasing like the rest of the country does. Will be interesting to see how the team turns out in the spring.
I think they'll "emphasize" indoors if/when they're in a position to win the championship. What they're not gonna do is spend the winter throwing guys who aren't gonna qualify for nationals into meaningless invitationals every weekend

This makes no sense. They have the $$$ already allocated to send athletes wherever whenever. Send them to UW, Gonzaga, or some other "local" meet at low cost. On top of that, racing is a skill to be practiced, which is something a good coach should be aware of. Just being fit doesn't automatically make someone an NCAA champion.

this is correct. they had a lot of strong returning runners and a strong recruiting class. they probably weren't going to get 20 distance points at NCAA indoors, but they still have more talent on their roster than 95% of the distance programs out there.

Again, the expectation for his job is to get his team/athletes is to be in a position to win championships and compete every year. Lanana/Johnson already proved that UO can win XC/Indoor/Outdoor titles and be in the title hunt every season. They were able to get athletes ready to compete at all three championships, win individual titles, and make national teams perpetually. They did this for a decade and a half before Jerry took over. There is no excuse to "not emphasize" indoors because this program has proven repeatedly it can and should be competitive in indoors without mortgaging outdoors/XC/long term development. It's literally the expectation of his job. If Jerry can't even get his athletes ready to compete when his predecessors had no problem doing so, then he is not ready to be a big time NCAA D1 head track coach.
Prepping 3 guys to run regional qualifiers on the last possible day in a home meet attended by Oregon and a local community college. Then regionals and nationals. 3 meet season is really pushing Jerry’s system to the limits
Everybody else will just do laps on turf field until XC.
Whilst celebrating St Patrick’s Day at the local pub I laughed out loud at this post. The gents sitting next to me asked what was so funny, after a couple failed attempts to explain, I ended up saying, really I suppose it’s more sad than funny but never mind. C’mon now, can you play The Wild Rover?
Sub-29 for Larry Josh Edwards and Abdinasir Hussein at the Oregon Preview. Not bad at all for an irrelevant meet in March, especially since Larry is a true freshman. We should know a lot more about how the transition to Jerry is going next XC season; give them some time.

Then Jerry should resign because if he can't prep his athletes to compete and field teams (let alone competitive teams), then he is not doing is job. Again, his predecessors did it and succeeded at the highest eschalon. He has no legitimate excuse.
