This is a thread was about whether you think Russia should be banned from the Olympics since they are trying to take over another country via war. It was not a thread about what Germany or Japan did in WW2 or what they US has done in the past. But it turned into a thread about Russia vs Ukraine and we already have a thread on that so I've closed the thread to new posts. Everyone's views on that are largely set and don't need to be discussed here.

What good has come out of banning Russian athletes? Has it ended the war? Has it changed Putin’s mind? Every human being should be judged by their individual character and not be punished and discriminated against for something that their leader did. Something that they have no control over. For those calling for Russian athletes to speak up against Putin and the war, what will you do to help them when they are locked away for 20 years? Is the west going to help them then? By the same logic, why not ban the Chinese for literally committing genocide against the ethnic and religious minorities in their country? How about ban the US for all the countries that it has invaded unjustified? Or the Israelis for literally running an apartheid state? Oh yeah that’s right, the world of sport would lose too much money if they do that. Banning Russian athletes only further Putin’s goal or isolating the Russian people and turning them against the world. Stupid.

The principle is simple and clear-cut. A nation that is committing war crimes on its neighbour has no place in a festival that celebrates peace amongst nations. Russia should not be readmitted to the Games until it puts down its weapons in Ukraine.

Ukraine should just surrender. Russia is taking back their former territory, and the residents there want to be part of Russia.
If America would stop sending weapons, or if Ukraine would stop fighting, the conflict would end immediately.
