I’m disappointed that brazier couldn’t stay healthy this year.
I think a lot of willful ignorance would be required to see shacarris season as a disappointment. I think things turned out better for her than I thought they would have.
Agreed, can't be disappointed by someone who I expected to take the F
Fisher getting tripped in the 5k has to be it for me. It's the only time I've been watching a race and yelled "NO!" From his 12:53 in February to the DL Final in September, he had an almost perfect season. He was super close to a 10k medal, but it wasn't really disappointing because he still had the 5k. He positioned himself perfectly, he was ready to kick, he looked like he was finally about to get a medal, and it all got (t)ripped away in an instant.
Positioned perfectly is positioning self in the lead with 1000m to go. If it is not feasible to lead with 1000m to go then lead with 600m to go. G Fisher isn't M Yifter. Yifter could reach into his bag of tricks and pull out a low 38 final 300m on demand. Yifter was a legit 48.xx 400m man. Sprinters can sit in 5th, 6th or 7th place with 500m to go. That's not working out for G Fisher.

Well of course Miruts Yifter could not run 48.xx for 400m. If he could he would have been the best 1500m runner in the world. But he was amazing in his ability to accelerate for sure.
listened to (and enjoyed) the end of year podcast with the 'Best & Worst of 2022'. Surprised Josh Kerr didn't get a mention for biggest disappointment? @rojo
Last year got an OLY Medal, then started this year with a 3:48Mile(i) and talked up a BIG game coming into the summer.... then wasn't a factor in a single race that mattered: did nothing at Commonwealth Games, was almost out of the camera shot at Worlds and was pushed down to 3rd at British National Champs. Even after the summer, he went to Zurich Diamond League and only came 6th.
If someone threw Oli Hoare out on the pod as a disappointment then idk how Kerr didn't get a mention 2021: 1:45 3:29.0 13:23 OLY 1500 - Bronze British 1500 Champs - Gold 2022: 1:46.59 3:31.85 i3:48.8 13:37.99 British 1500 Champs - Bronze Commonwealth 1500 - 12th World Champs 1500 - 5th
Richardson didn't choke, she just wasn't in shape. In order to choke, you need to first be in a position to compete and Richardson wasn't close this year.
I'm putting in a nomination for Jakob in the 1500. He's quite clearly the best guy in the field but he screwed it by trying to react to every single move made by Cheruiyot and Kipsang. He gave away a gold medal with poor decisions.
Other than that, it's Barega and Hoare. Hoare should have been competing for a medal at World's and he knows it. I was happy to see him come back strong but it was still a major choke for someone who was probably the second or third best 1500 guy in the world

While that's true, the tactics of Cheruiyot and Kipsang were worse, leaving Kenya without medal in the men's 1500.
Americas 800m men were disappointing as a whole. This wasn’t a string year for 800m running world-wide and yet we still had no one relevant internationally, despite Murphy, Hoppel, and Brazier having the talent to be medalists
I agree that the outdoor season was disappointing for our 800 guys but let’s not forget Hoppel was a medalist at world indoors this year. I know an indoor medal doesn’t have the same level of prestige as an outdoor medal, but it’s not nothing. There were strong runners in that 800 field indoors; world outdoor medalists Marco Arop and Djamel Sedjati competed and came away empty handed. Hoppel deserves credit for his indoor medal.
wejo, how many races did you run in 2022? I'm guessing zero. Yet you call people who actually did race disappointing chokers? The disappointment is you.
What does how many races you ran have to do with evaluating talent on the world stage? Please reply.
Choke goes to Max Siegel for once again having the purse strings to do much more for athletes but instead keeps lining his pockets off of the backs of athletes.
Disappointment goes to USATF. They had the chance to really bolster track and field with the World Championships on American soil. Ticket prices were ridiculous, Eugene too remote and expensive. I know… World Athletics and sponsors, and venue costs etc. But how can 2023 Worlds be held in a major city with ticket costs around $50 when Eugene ticket prices were $200+???
