As people have said, he would win easily from the gun, but it would be fun to see him make his move right where Hicks did and see how much of a gap he could open
Had Hicks run the senior European cross country championship last year (and not the U23) he wouldn't have beaten Gressier - let alone finished in shouting distance of Jakob. I doubt he beats Gressier this year (assuming Gressier is in shape and Hicks runs the senior race). He certainly isn't as good as Crippa or even perhaps a fit Mayo.
Is this a joke? The top 100 5000m runners from this year could win NCAA's with a side stitch.
interesting to know what the number would actually be.
my guess is 50 +-10, as in 10 people somewhere outside the top 50 probably could, and for ~10 people inside it depends on the day (including #49 nico young)
Some context:
Nico Young (who did NOT win NCAA XC) was the 49th fastest 5000m runner in the world this year, at 13:11. The 100th fastest was Rodrigue Kwezera, at 13:20. So it's fair to say that neither the top 100 nor the top 50 would win NCAAs with a side stitch.
That said, of course Ingebritsen would win barring some sort of bizarre mishap, with no special preparation needed.

Doesn’t seem like anybody is picking the field against Jakob this year, but I recall a nearly identical thread last year and many were arguing that Jakob would not beat Mantz, especially on a course like at Stillwater. Was this because Mantz is far better than Hicks at xc or because Jakob had yet to assert his dominance at the 5000 or because it’s was just as absurd to make the argument that Jakob would lose to any collegiate runner under any circumstance at a race over 800m?
I had forgotten than some people on this site think running begins and ends with the NCAA.
It does - everyone else is doping. Just not the ncaa runners, they are clean, at least the American runners are anyway. The Olympics should be limited to ncaa competitors only. Pro means doper - right Astro?
Current shape and training. Pretend he was 7 days ago about the race.
I don't think so. NCAA's is just too competitive even compared with the Olympics. Remember that Viren did not win NCAAs. Also technically to compete in the NCAAs he would have to attend a US univesity where the academic workload would be unreal and would defnitely compromise his training. US universities are generally recognised as being the best in the world because of their elite-level academics.

Little-known fact: During their youth athletics training, Gjert put all of the boys through both rigorous physical and mental tests in order to find where their clearest advantage lay in life. Eventually, Gjert found that all of the boys’ vo2 max and Lactate Threshold measures were truly off the charts, and that’s how he decided to train them for running (although he briefly considered Nordic Ski, a staple in their culture.
Most people don’t know that during these tests, Jakob’s IQ measured at a shockingly high 163 (genius level). It is safe to say that no American university’s coursework could come close to challenging Jakob’s intellect, let alone hamper his training pre-NCAAs.
Texas A&M women, paced by Katherine Devlin's fifth-place finish, scored 154 points to place third in team scoring at the Chile Pepper Festival hosted at the University
The dude is 100lbs … how would sitting on them kill them? And why would you sit on someone during cross country? Get an obese American lady and we’ve a different story. Broken bones and everything

Hicks may be improving at quicker rate than the other euro guys you mention. Mayo didn't have his best season in 2022. "Turkey ' and Israel/ Ethiopia may feature at front end of SM Euros.
For those that said he can’t run a 10k well or has not raced one: look at Euro cross and the folks he beat.
he probably would be #2 best 10k runner after Fisher with his current training and he might beat Fisher in a tactical race
If Fisher and Jakob run 20 10k races, Jakob wins 19 times. If I remember clearly Fisher couldn’t even win US trials against B-tier competitors this year ?
Exactly my thoughts, now that would be an interesting matchup.. 17 year old Jakob vs the best collegiate runners in the US from 1500 on up. I'm surprised no one's asked it yet.
