Terrible situation, Nike should force Cole Hocker to be trained by expert coach and superguru Johnathan J Marcus. After years of Twitter nonsense lets give him 1 year with Hocker to prove himself. Hocker will be so traumatized by Johnathan he will accept the offer to be coached by a recently unbanned. Alberta Salazar, all apart of Phil Knight's master plan
So basically OTC is now a club. One athlete and a coach get paid? The other athletes get shoes and equipment for doing youth events and workouts? Do they share the UO track with the college runners and BTC?
It's not a "Eugene Pro Team." It's one professional runner training with his college buddies during a long run. The only thing they are going to be professionals at is living off of their parents for years while earning no income until they realize it's probably time to "give up the dream."

There is only one pro. This is very disappointing for Hocker. He is a professional but rather train with amateurs. He already went to the Olympics. This is going backwards.
Why is everyone knocking some guys running together post-collegiately?
Besides Hocker, none of them have contracts, but there are plenty of training groups that are running without contracts at a high level (Empire Elite).
It is odd Hocker hasn't joined Bowerman yet...but the other guys they are referring to are still very good runners who will compete at a high level (just probably not the Olympics, but newsflash for you...A LOT of semi-pro and even full pro runners don't make the olympics).
Someone knocked Carter, when I'm pretty sure he has a full-time job that they have talked about before. Why is he not able to work 40 hrs a week and still train at a high-level if he wants?

The sentiment seems much more wishing Hocker would train with people on his level than it is animosity towards some guys without contracts chasing their dreams
You can think Drew Hunter should've gone to a real elite group without trashing the TME guys or thinking they shouldn't be training

I don't think anyone is knocking thomas' skills as a coach (and if so they are wrong, he has more than proven his chops). You can only do so much with the talent you have to work with though.
I interpreted the tinman comparisons as more of a description of the team. 1 main star and a lot of flotsam around it (although tinman is much more accomplished with their secondary runners), and a heavy media/off track presence.
