ACC championship race course panoramic

its not short, seymour posted and the distance shows a full 6k and her moving time was 20:23

ppl are just scared to believe the fact that katelyn can easily run 19:09 on that awfully tough course so they brainwash themselves that it wasn't a full 6k so they would feel better and not threatened by what she is capable of doing

GPS watches are not accurate around an XC course, looking at a strava post to verify distance is dumb. I hate how obsessed with XC times we have gotten, they are irrelevant as is the distance of the course.

Agreed on the GPS watch. But I am interested in these times, specifically on the mens side.

The course is being framed as a super challenging course and the winner broke 23 minutes. On a fairly difficult course at Van Cortlandt, the Heps winner barely broke 24. So you're telling me that over 50 ACC athletes are significantly better than the Heps winner because they all ran faster and on a more difficult course?

This is exactly why the obsession with XC times is dumb. The 8K and 10K at Panorama have been short for years, its a very challenging course. The only thing times are relevant for is comparing performances on the same course and even that has issues with different course conditions and weather year over year.

gps watches are accurate and measures the distance and steps you take ... its the closest thing you can base on to see wether the the course is short or not

her time is almost identical to her official time and DISTANCE IS IDENTICAL TO WHAT SHE RAN

if gps isnt that accurate then why are her results accurate???

GPS dont know and dont care if its a cross country course.. what they measure is your moving time and the distance you covered

We are talking about the 6K course. Get your replies straight. So you are saying that YOU and a measuring tape is smarter than a gps watch !?

You do realize the courses all run common sections - the 8K is 2 3K loops that comprise the 6K race plus a 2K loop, no doubt the 10K runs those 2 3K loops as well. Hard to believe the issue ( if there is an issue) is just on the 2K loop (and is not in the 1K section of that loop which is common with the 3K loop). All the times do seem fast for the difficulty of the course. If I had to suspect the course I think it would be in the 1K section near the finish area.

GPS could be off. But, the top women (Markezich, Chmiel - except Tuohy) only PRd by like 9-10 seconds. I would guess this course could be a little short, sure, but SEC was like 200m short to get those 60 second PR's for Tyynismaa and Chelangat.

Courses in XC are frequently inaccurate. There was a study showing the wheels can be wrong even.

Agree with other commenter that times should not be such a focus.

um, grandpas, sorry to tell you but gps is more accurate than a meter wheel

So can someone please explain to me how hard this course actually is? If its as difficult a course as some are saying, I would call it very short if people are PRing on this.

The SEC course isn't challenging so thats different.

MY guess is the 6k is more like 5850 and the 8k is 7800.

gps from a runner that ran showed a full 6k distance and only 2-second difference on her official time and moving time, and the splits and gap are making sense while SEC just does not.

the acc race started blazing fast til 2.5k!! they were flying on the hills!! ..the final gap with Katelyn and the ND runners are top 3 21seconds - top7 39 seconds- top8 44 seconds --- the gap makes sense, also katelyn was just with them at the back hill, it was on the last 1.5k that she and kelsey went off

its not like the ND runners are slow, they arent!

Your average gps watch reads at 10 meter accuracy per point collected. Readings can be at 1-3 second intervals. Software does a decent job smoothing the data to fairly accurate measurements, but it can still be off. In particular when you care about 50-100 meters in a 6k race. A distance variance that large would change times a lot.

The chip on their laces is nothing like a gps watch. They are rfid tags read by the timing mats.

When I ran at UVA, everyone believed the course was difficult but short. I don't know if they've changed it since then or remeasured..

FWIW: A quick comparison I just did was looking at the Virginia times from Boston Franklin Park.. a legit 8k. They all ran a good 30sec faster at ACC

Franklin Park is notoriously sure.
