well i suppose you can understand why most people don't want to govern based on your beliefs about a made-up imaginary being.
Don't the conservatives in this country get all worked up and fearful about governments based on the laws of another religion's invisible sky daddy? Wait, isn't there imaginary boss the same as our imaginary boss and another religion's imaginary boss?

So it looks like it's premise is that Portland's homeless are attracted from all over the country rather than created there.
Kind of shoots a hole in the whole is that "dEmocrats Make Homless PpeoPle!!"
Democrats put out the welcome mat in Oregon. They also encouraged the cartels to take over and control the trafficking and production. If you kill traffickers instead of catch and deport them, you can dry up the supply of drugs.
What's your point? Does Portland have problems? Absolutely, it does. Have local and state governments been useless to address the problems? Again, yes. Oregon needs changes but neither the Democrats or the Republicans are offering any concrete plan to make those changes. Having grown up in a solidly red Midwest state and visiting family frequently, that place has many similar issues (opioids, meth, and associated crime) in both urban and rural areas. They just hide it better and largely ignore that it goes on.
The Democrats will insist that more time and money is required to fix things, stay the course!
The GOP thinks that bulldozing homeless camps, hiring more cops, giving wealthy people and businesses tax cuts, and showing more respect to cattle ranchers and church goers will solve all social ills.
Both sides refuse to work with each other as they are very firmly entrenched in their ideologies. If Kotek (D) gets elected, then it will be business as usual. If Drazan (R) wins, the Dems will still control both legislative houses and nothing will get done. If Johnson (I) somehow pulled it off, she would be stymied because a significant number of legislators on both sides of the aisle view her as a traitor to their respective parties.
It's frustrating! I lean liberal but my frustration is based on an appalling lack of pragmatism from all involved. It's all just slogans, invective, unfulfilled promises, posturing, and hand wringing at the expense of the citizens that need help and those that want positive action.
Weird flex brojos. Didn’t someone post about this last week and you guys deleted the thread
I posted it and YES it was promptly deleted.
I am glad WEJO has decided that this story is newsworthy now. Phil Night does not want his state to be the laughingstock of North America. Portland is a third world dystopian nightmare and the democrat dominated education system is dropping scholastic standards for non-white people.
Oregon Governor Kate Brown (D) signed a bill last month suspending proficiency requirements for high school graduates for the next five years.
A spokesman for the governor said that suspending proficiency requirements would aid the state’s minority students.
“Oregon’s Black, Latino, Latina, Latinx, Indigenous, Asian, Pacific Islander, Tribal, and students of color” stand to benefit from the legislation, Brown’s deputy communications director Charles Boyle told The Oregonian in a statement. “Leaders from those communities have advocated time and again for equitable graduation standards, along with expanded learning opportunities and supports.”

I'm surprised they included Asian in that category. Typically, Asians and a lot of African (black) ethnicities outperform whites on testing, but I guess they had to include every non-white group to be "inclusive".

So their solution to poor proficiency scores is not to try to bring up the underperforming students via tutoring or other measures, but to suspend the testing. Sounds about left to me.
This action clearly means that the rightwing Newberg School Board's plan to improve test scores by firing a respected superintendent, banning BLM and gay pride flags, and forming prayer clubs failed in spectacular fashion. That was going to make Newberg the envy of all other Oregon districts!
Weak move on Brown's part and a setback for the state. I agree with you on that, Joe. I I sense that you were looking to score cheap partisan points (like I just did above!) rather than have a serious conversation. Isn't that the problem and the reason why we do not get better leadership? Soundbites and "Gotcha!" is quicker and more fun than reasoned ideas.
No, I am asserting that all people are inherently bad. I believe in original sin, that all people are born flawed, and this cannot be changed via any educational, social, or political process. People commit crime because it is our nature to take what does not belong to us, to seek to dominate and oppress our fellow man. This can only change if God changes people from the inside out.
Thus the job of government is to stop the rot from advancing and overwhelming us all. If government works off the assumption that all people are good, and bad behavior is a result of some external force, it will get a lot of people killed, as it is now.
The only thing that works: locking people up. Getting those who cannot or will not control their base impulses off the streets. This will make communities safer, and will save lives.

Be that as it may, I have no interest in governing by pure reason. Reason is necessarily limited, because human beings are inherently flawed.

My kids and my brother's kids all go to charter schools. In these schools they set a standard. If kids are not meeting the standard, they have to come in either before or after school for tutoring, no exceptions. As a result, the school outperforms the state and districts they are in by a wide margin. When failure is the expectation, kids will fail. Math and science are great because they are not racist. They are color blind, gender neutral and therefor beautiful. When they start calling math racist, they have gone way over the top.

Math isn't racist but the academic culture among mathematicians can be quite racist as the very notion of what it means to be intelligent is linked with mathematical proficiency.
Here are the 10 states with the highest murder rate: Mississippi - 20.50 per 100k Louisiana - 19.90 per 100k Alabama - 14.20 per 100k Missouri - 14 per 100k Arkansas - 13 per 100k South Carolina - 12.70 per 100k Tennessee - 11.50 per 100k Maryland - 11.40 per 100k Illinois - 11.20 per 100k New Mexico - 10.80 per 100k
Yes, your statistics are true. However, if you avoid ghetto Democratic areas, your likelihood of being shot goes down to basically 0%.
Maryland is the highest income state, but has a high murder rate. However, if you don’t count Baltimore (and PG county to a lesser extent) the murder rate goes WAY down. And if you go even further and discount the sketchy areas in Anne Arundel / Baltimore / Charles counties, there are fewer than 100 homicides in the entire state.
The main problem in Oregon is homelessness and property crime. In terms of violent crime Portland is one of the safest large metropolitan areas in the US (in contradiction to the hysteria stirred up by Fox News to scare old people).
Here is an article about how the worst crime states are actually Republican controlled. Personally I don’t think there is a Democrat vs Republican link, it is more driven by socioeconomic status and poverty.
I also live in the PDX metro area, while you might be correct that violent crime in terms of numbers isn't as bad as say Chicago or Houston or East Coast cities, Portland is still setting a new record for itself every year for Homicides in the City. The trend here is NOT going in the right direction!
