And it's "altar." You seem to be missing the fact that this was the best team in American history by far, and not because it had by far the best recruiting classes in history. Who on NP had any national 8th grade or 9th grade class records?
You can't be serious. Most programs in the country have mostly 5 minute milers and do nothing with them.
Most boys improve in high school by just maturing. NP is taking 14:4x high school freshmen and making them 13:4x runners. Other schools take their version of good kids from 16:30 freshmen to 15:0x runners. it’s all relative, but NP gets better kids than most to start.
Aaron Cantu and Hector Martinez are good examples of what you should expect from the current crop of NP freshmen. Really good 8th graders who trained hard before high school and aren’t complete outliers like the Youngs and Sahlmans. They’ll probably all end up between 9:20 and 9:0x by the time they leave, which is really good, just like Cantu and Martinez.
If Newbury park wants a chance at a national title in 2025, they better hope that next year, the varsity spots are occupied by as many youngsters as possible, like Dickran, younger Sloan, Bernardino, Watson, and younger Cantu.
Newbury Park's team is being "coached" by Tanya who is Sean Brosnan wife. I think we know who's writing the workouts. After this season the Brosnan's will have nothing to do with Newbury Park and you will see nothing from Newbury park on the national after this coming year.
Tanya Brosnan is just carrying team though the last championship. It's really that simple. It was a great run, but when the coach leaves in HS it's the same story time after time.

That’s true. After the Hunters stopped coaching loudoun valley, this team is basically a middle of the pack team in Virginia now
Nico wasn't at a high level until well into high school. Lex and Leo were very good. But you can just look at the top freshmen at this meet and while there are some good ones at NP, 15:48 to 16:07, there were numerous faster freshmen at Woodbridge. Two programs had 2-3 freshmen all faster than NP's top freshmen. As for the notion that the program with the greatest xc team in high school history, by far, one good enough to challenge an all-time non-NP team, does only about as well as the majority of teams is risible.
That’s the major problem. Three freshmen came into the NP program this year with similar credentials to the 2019 recruits. However (at this point), they are quite a bit behind.
2019 (freshman year)
Lex 14:37
Leo 14:58
Aaron S 15:35
Cantu 15:49
2022:
Dickran 15:47
Bernardino 15:55
N Sloan 16:08
Shearer 17:37
in addition, the top soph only has a 16:27 PB.
Of course, the year is not over, but there is presently a big gap.
Let’s get some data from guys in the Newbury park track club https://www.athletic.net/result/LnFzLEVhzBm2g/ 4k Zasloff - 15:55 Pelascini - 15:57 Reynolds - 15:58 There is also max Rhoe who ran a 4:56 1600 as mentioned in another thread And 8th grader Adrian Cantu who ran a 4:39. Don’t know what grade any of these other guys are in 3k Jarnit-Bjergsoe - 11:09 Goetze 11:18
The senior class at np won’t be relevant in 2024 on the boys side. I wouldn’t be surprised if that 16:27 soph is the only one in this class that ever makes varsity. He did run a 4:39 1600 in track though
Anyone else find it interesting that after the coaching change at NP there has been a dramatic decline in the number of threads started here about the program. Hmm has me wondering who was starting all those posts. A bit of self promotion perhaps?

I also noticed the lack of UCLA threads lately. coincidence?

Correction to your statement.
You seem to be missing the fact that this was the best team in American history by far, because they had the 2 best families in history.

Bean Sronson is perhaps the biggest self promoter in the history of running. Just watch any interview with him, he has all the dead giveaways of a narcissist.
top 5 Signs you are dealing with a narcissist:
1. Supeririority complex: "4:20 isn't fast" nothing screams i'm better than you than this.
2. exaggerated need for attention: Pretty self explanatory here, just look at Bean
3. Perfectionism: If you listen to his interviews he's a control freak and wants to micro manage every detail of his kids
4. Great need for control: See above
5. Lack of responsibility: granted his runners don't have bad days often, but when they do he's quick to make an excuse and it is never his fault. Not the sign of a good leader
How do you guys feel about their girls team? They finished as the #3 girls CA team at Woodbridge without Spaulding. And only Sax Is leaving after this year.
What about Martinez? He was in their top 7 but I haven't heard much from him.
Heard he is injured and there is a rumor that he may or may not run this XC season. Hopefully he does. If he does, he will probably be on Cantù’s level. Shetty was 48 seconds behind Cantu though. If would be cool so see him (or whoever their 7th is if Hector doesn’t return), the gap on Cantu at NXN, like Doshi did on Martinez at RunningLane.
But based on this interview, doesn’t sound like he is returning. Or maybe he’s in the same shape as the other guys fighting for the 7th spot.

2 Woodbridge freshmen ran faster than NP’s top freshmen. There is a reason for that. This was their home course

Brayden Seymour didn’t run any 3-miles in 2019 but his 5K pr that year was 16:35 (converted to 15:58) His first race was a 18:03 5k (converted to a 17:23 3 mile) Hector Martinez 3 mile - 15:24

Wow…after seeing that some schools have better freshmen than Newbury’s #1 freshman, it increases the chances of this year being their last national title ever
