Yes Shelby can be an assistant coach. Most universities don't care less about drug cheats. Hell CJ Hunter got disqualified from the Olympics for drugs and had a job coaching at University before his plane landed back in the USA. You think Marion Jones Justin Gatlin etc aren't in their university hall of fame. If you write to a university president about hiring known cheats you don't even get a reply.
Banfield is a good no 1. Most of their guys are more mid-d types but you have 3:37 guy in Yearinen, a 3:38 guy in Cook and a 3:41 guy in Gormley. Add in Harrison, Edwards and Schumacher as newcomers and the Kiwi looks pretty good. Plus two other sub 14 guys in Norman and Caleb Brown.
Not spectacular but I would think should be a top 20 type team and only Banfield and Schumacher likely graduate.
The women’s team looks similarly solid, might lack the low stick. But Kazimerska is a heck of a recruit at 4:07. Zarbo at 32:28 and Bott 4:13 is a good top 3, plus you have Pivec a 10:01 steepler and quite a few low 4:20/16 low girls. Again likely not a top ten team and these are track times that don’t always translate to cross country but something you can build off of and in today’s transfer world I suspect they will get good at XC real fast and should be quite strong on the track immediately.
Didn’t Yearinen lose all his eligibility? He is not on the roster either
I would hope so. He's older than me and this would've been my 6th year if I were still in the NCAA lmao
Has anyone heard anything about Shelby being involved in this program? That was a major rumor/concern in the summer. It's one thing for Jerry and Shalane to find a safe haven in this program where kids who didn't ask for these coaches have to put up with it. It's another for a doper to be involved and young athletes being forced to work with her.
5 year max. Jerry will continue to be absent and Shalane’s true persona will be on full display.
What the hell are you talking about? What “true persona”? Anyone who has any relationship with Shalane or has met her in person can’t speak to her genuine character.
Just because you disagree with her on one or two topics doesn’t mean you need to bash her.
Tell us you met Shalane once without telling us you met Shalane once.

You are forgetting Jessica Hull. She should contribute to the cross country team mightily.
I have always found the dislike from distance runners of Oregon fascinating. I love the fact there is a distance oriented men’s program that actually tries to win at track and field and a school invests in track and field and distance running. The NCAA is a copy cat league look at Alabama’s 2015 Football coaching staff and where they are now. If a distance oriented program can contend in xc and in track for the team title, I think other programs will follow suit creating more scholarship opportunities at elite programs for distance runners and in general raising the level of support for track and field. Balanced programs occasionally contend (see Texas indoors), hopefully more big budget programs will see this as a model but in general it is the speed power programs that battle for the team title on the mens side with the exception of Oregon.
Dude, Oregon has been pumping money (legal and otherwise) into the distances since 2006. They have won several track titles with distance runners scoring a lot of points. Hell, Vin did it first at Stanford in 2000. There has been ample opportunity to copy this model and no one has. There is a unique situation where Oregon has the history and the sugar daddy with a fixation on distance running. That's the only way it works.
Maybe they’re waiting for pro season to end to announce new OTC coach?
OTC will be disbanded.
I find it sort of funny that some people think there will be any sort of loyalty shown towards Thomas. He was a Johnson hire, isn't tight with the Nike people that matter, and doesn't have much of a track record. Don't let the door hit you on the way out, Ben.

Basically this.
in any corporation, which college athletics effectively is, whenever a new chief executive is named you will see a lot of deck shuffling and competent leaders are shown the door simply because they are not the people the new executive wants. What is odd is the general timing. If Thomas is let go, he’s kind of screwed out of a college job for a year giving the likelihood of a pro job a boost. Albeit, the timing of Jerry’s hiring made it so that finding another gig would have been tough on short notice, especially a gig that is comparable to Oregon.

Arkansas won a bunch of national team track championships the same years they won national cross country championships during the 90s.
As for Oregon, they’ve been at their best in national championships when they’ve gotten points from non-distance events to go along with their distance points:
2009 - runners up - 1st place from Ashton Eaton in the decathlon and a 4th in javelin
2014 - champs - 1st from Devon Allen in the 110 hurdles, 1st from Sam Crouser (Ryan’s cousin!) in the javelin, plus top 4 in 400, decathlon, and hammer
2015 - champs - Another 1st from Sam Crouser in the javelin plus top 3 in 400, decathlon, and hammer
2021 - runners up - 1st in triple jump and 3rd in 100
As Thomas wasn't fired for cause, might they have to buy out his contract? That would give him a bit of breathing room before he has to find another job.
