I get the feeling that Nike is going to pull the plug on BTC after Paris. The Oregon job was a golden parachute for Schumacher and Flanagan. Most of the current roster will be done with track after 2024 and I don't think that Jerry wants a stable of aging marathon runners. Nike will fiscally take care of Fisher for the long haul, but most of the current group will retire or fall away.
This sounds like it could be correct. Would also explain why they have not really been adding any new members. Guys like Mo Ahmed (31), Centro (32), Jager (33), Kincaid (29) are at the end of, or are nearing the end of their primes. Fisher is really the only one that is both young and globally competitive.
Will be telling in the next year or so to see if they sign any of the top collegians. If not, I tend to agree that they are winding it down.
Literally said the same thing on a post around a month ago and was almost ridiculed by fellow LR posters. This is obviously happening. Tons of athletes leaving and no new additions speak for themselves. I'd not be surprised if many athletes are already looking for coaching changes behind the scenes and are exploring their options.

Curious to see how this develops. From what I have heard, some athletes are surprised but chill with the move to Eugene, but others more concerned. In particular, there are a couple of BTC athletes who signed new contracts with Nike at the end of last year/start of this year, turning down more money elsewhere out of loyalty/liking the setup because it was working for them. Given the team found out a week before the rest of the world, they a) felt blindsided and b) re-signed to work with Jerry full time, not have him full time work for UofO and have Pascal Dobert run their workouts. Some people feeling their loyalty has been taken advantage of.
Nothing could change, they signed the contracts after all, but don't know if those contracts stipulated athletes working with BTC or not.
Feel free to take with grains of salt (this is letsrun after all), but I've said some true stuff around here about BTC before the news broke (Rowland to Canada/Schumacher to Oregon, GDS leaving BTC, Houlihan being in trouble).

Courtney F. answered a question about the move to Eugene and her answer sounded so fake with enthusiasm. She was definitely coached about what to say when asked about the move. I am sure many of the runners are not happy to move to Eugene.
An "opportunity to pursue work in the venture capital industry". I am genuinely curious what degree or work experience has led her to be useful in that field, or if this is a friend of a friend letting her into the free money club.
"I've always been really interested in just kind of being near the sources of money and kind of just yknow seeing what goes on and contributing to performance and this is very similar to me being an athlete"

The Stanford human centipede keeps going round and round.
Cranny now the sole healthy BTC woman. Yikes. I really like the group and hope they get some new American talent, and that Schweitzer and seccafien return to health
I've said in another post when the move of BTC to Eugene was announced that there will be more departures from BTC with this move. Anyone on the brink of leaving or thinking of it will use this as an opportunity. I think only Cranny, Schweizer and Frerichs have shown no signs of wanting to leave BTC. At least on the womens side this is steadily dissolving. They went from the prime womens long distance club to having barely any athletes left. Kinda sad.

Yikes! That's some quote. Where'd you find it?
Oh I just made it up, sorry to disappoint. But it reminded me of the way she was trying to compare being an athlete to working in venture capital. Like, it's fine, you don't have to explain how there's synergy between your job and your athletic pursuits, or act like there's any real motivation to get involved with VC except to make money. "Oh wow innovation, I'll apply over there!" I'm just like ugh stfu, go away, and go build on the wealth your parents stockpiled for you.

No need to apologize. It was pretty obvious you made that quote up. But now I'm curious: Why the animus? Given the vitriol, I assume it's personal, but maybe not.

oh absolutely not personal, I am just sick of rich people playing with money and making more money and acting like it's anything other than that.

I got lit up in this thread as a jealous impotent, but this is basically my immediate suspicion of anyone entering the "field" of venture capital.
They are fundamentally casting a wide net with billions of dollars hoping to land some 10,000% growers.
What does anyone bring to the venture capital industry except lots of their own money?
Like what insight is there to have? In my head, only specialists (as one example, a microbiology researcher) hired to consult could tell the money guys if some very specific start-up was a hidden diamond or just blowing smoke.

As others have mentioned, there’s this: Major is symbolic systems with a concentration on neuroscience.
VCs tend to have the specialists you describe, including many MDs and PhDs.

You did see that VF never said that, right? radd made it up, because it was what he thought someone like say.

Schweizer pulled her calf. Chill out.
She tore her soleus. It's been almost a month and she's still in a protective boot. That's not a casual pulling of the calf.
