Could be she was intimated by fast runners at BYU and fearful of not being a top 5 runner. Based on her 5K times from recent weeks she would be well outside the top 100 in the NCAA. Going to a less competitive program you may have better success of being more in the spotlight. Some runners want to be in the spotlight and love media attention. Hope it works out for her but you get better with team competition.
6/7 is not bad actually. These are really Important positions. You get to displace a 5th runner from another team
I don't know if anyone has ever seen Ana Weaver interviews before, but she seems super sweet and humble. BYU XC is super successful but no one on that team including Coach Taylor could ever be accused of being humble. Maybe she didn't fit in with a super intense BYU team. Just because you are fast enough to run at one of the best D1's doesn't mean its the best fit. USU isn't overwhelmingly successful in XC or track but she probably wanted a more well rounded college experience. BYU is a great school, but it is very intense academically and just a little bit more of that "keeping up with the jones' stuff". The USU team is much more relaxed and she is still having some super impressive success.

I don't have any very recent info, but in her most recent YouTube video (from a month ago) she said she's redshirting the XC season, but will be back for indoors. She said she could theoretically return for XC regionals, but she wouldn't be in top shape.
I realize this is an old thread but.... this is funny. BYU famously turned a blind eye to McMahon's partying. They're not doing that for lowly XC runners.
I'm at USU, but unfortunately I don't have a good way to meet her normally. I wish I did since messaging her on IG out of the blue would be kind of weird.
