Untrue. Williams has a $4B endowment and 2000 students. Williams could admit all 2000 at no charge and never eat into the endowment if invested at average market returns. The elite colleges are racist and they also like to feel that they are helping the poor while hurting the rich. Why no truly bended blind in admissions and not look at income in admissions or for aid? Just guarantee every student a $60k aid package. No. Because that would be fair.
I would reply that you should stay on topic. Nowhere in his post did he say that cost was a factor. he didn't ask about it, nor implied anything of the sort. You don't know his financial situation, and shouldn't assume he really cares. If he is interested, he will ask. He simply wanted to know if his times were good enough for support since his academics weren't quite as strong.
I understand that you have an ax to grind with the school because you feel slighted in some way that you saved your entire life while others spent lavishly and still got financial support. You are entitled to that opinion. And honestly, I don't disagree with you. The system isn't fair, and it isn't right. But it is what it is, and you can be upset with people who have played the game better than you, but that has nothing to do with this kid getting into Williams. Try to actually add value as opposed to using this forum to try to make yourself feel better.
Do you realize that your 2 paragraph post did not contribute in any way to the topic? Yours is far more off topic than mine pertaining to the cost of the school.

Figures lie and liars figure. 14,000 students at UMass pay less than $23k to attend while only 500 students at Williams pay less than $23k to attend.
Ah yes, it wouldn't be a Williams post without Carmine9 complaining how poor people are not getting enough representation at the school, or Big Car Daddy's claims that his amazing son couldn't go to an elite school because he made too much money and saved. News flash- college is expensive, and its a privilege not a right. Nowhere does it say that a school has to provide financial aid to anyone. You didn't get in. Your jaded. We get it. Move on.
It will someday be prosecuted as illegal to use race as a factor and to use income to determine the cost of a product. Imagine if you show up at a furniture store and there are 2 couches that everyone wants. The salesman looks at everyone and first eliminates the whites and Asians and then asks the Hispanic and black buyers how much money they earn. He sells one couch for $1k and the other one for $100. Now imagine if hehad turned the black buyers away and only considered the white buyers.
Ooh, I like that idea! Lets do this. Williams will only admit students who can afford the full $80k tuition, and have SAT's of over 1500. No tips for athletes, minorities, tuba players, thespians, sexual orientation, or especially poor people. Who needs them, they just cost all us rich people money and take our spots!

Nothing illegal about admiting athletes and musicians. It is illegal to use race or sex as discriminators though.

actually, Hispanics are underrepresented significantly in colleges, which is especially egregious because the average Hispanic IQ is about 10 points higher than the average (non-African) black IQ. Harvard is about 19% black and 12% Hispanic, while the US is about 19% Hispanic and 12% black
I was accepted, but I ended up going to a school located in (well, just outside of) the best college town in America, Boston.
I'll be even clearer - I went to college in Cambridge.

This is very true and underappreciated. NESCAC schools wouldn't have football teams if they didn't significantly relax their academic standards for those athletes. Runners, golfers, and tennis players, on the other hand, tend to have great grades, so less leeway is given.
12XX is a VERY low SAT score for an elite NESCAC school. I would work hard on that, as it's one of the easiest standardized tests to learn.

Thank you for responding and giving an honest answer. And as a father, I think its great that you are concerned about your parents spending so much money on a degree. That being said, if you truly want a great liberal arts education and a strong running program, the Nescacs are about as good as it gets. I've met a lot of Eph runners over the years, and not one has regretted going that route. Williams in particular has an incredibly high alumni satisfaction level. If you haven't already, you really should reach out to one or two of the rising sophomores on the team. They would be best equipped to answer your questions. The rosters are posted and I'm sure you can find them on social media. Just introduce yourself and say you are interested in the program and wanted to ask some questions. I'm willing to bet they will be happy to assist in any way they can and tell you their experiences at the school and wether its worth the cost. Good luck to you!
Some of you didn't believe that he could have to pay full price and wouldn't be happy about it. Sounds like that discussion was beneficial. Easy for you to tell a 17 year old that $320K is worth it. Imagine if he can instead get a full ride at a other school. He then starts life with $320K in the bank. Bet you $100 that he is way financially ahead of the Williams grad 10 years later if chooses that path. You are likely somebody who supports forgiving student loan debt also because school is expensive and life isn't fair.
