Some ex half decent pro runners have done the conversion successfully, like Sowinski - probably the best mid D pacer in the circuit the last 2-3 years.

You’re trolling surely, but Erik Sowinski is no Matt Centrowitz. Centro was a fraction of a second from winning USAs last June, and ran a 3:49.26 mile PR with poor pacing last July. On the broadcast of that mile, the commentary mentioned Mo Ahmed said Centro was stronger than ever before, and capable of sub-13 for 5k—and given what we’ve seen from the BTC sine Centro ran 13:00 in 2019, why should we doubt that claim.
Of course, at 32 and given his more recent results, he’s on the backside of his career at least as far as the 1500 is concerned. But if he can get healthy, he’s a good bet to make another WC 1500 team, and possibly (I wouldn’t bet on it) join the U.S. sub-13 club.
Point is, though, if you’re Centro you’re not thinking about becoming a pacer, you’re dreaming of clawing back to the top of the U.S. mid-distance pile. I think he’ll ultimately decide to stay with the 1500, and even with him currently “banged up” and MIA, I’d peg him at a 50/50 shot at making another U.S. team this summer.

Half trolling maybe. Making the US 1500 team isn't particularly impressive right now given the level isn't high and it's practically non-existant on the world scene. Znd then what, fail to reach the finals?
We've heard countless stories of "Centro being stronger than ever" ... But after 2016 he's done nothing.
The 5000 prob suits him better at this stage, but it will be more difficult to make the US team with the likes of Chelimo, Kincaid and of course Fisher.
Thanks to Mondo, the U.S. citizen who set an American Record in the PV while competing for Sweden, the USAFT 14-years after their dumb Lagat decision now recognize 3:27.40 as the 100m AR.
Now the problem are the sites which insist on listing a slower, non-AR, time as the "AR".
Dual Citizenship Technicality Makes for Three Retroactive American RecordsBy Adam KopetWhen Armand "Mondo" Duplantis won the pole vault at the European Athletics Outdoor Championships in August, he broke two national records....
3:27.40 is the time today's, and tomorrow's, U.S. 1500m guys should target to beat for the record set by a U.S. citizen. Claiming a time slower as the record is silly.
What is the fastest 1500m run by a U.S. citizen at a sanctioned meet? 3:27.40
What is the American 1500m record? 3:29 something
Hmmm . . . silly
I'm not saying your logic is unsound, but it is apparently not the analysis used to determine ARs. Duplantis is a US citizen and has been since birth. Does he hold the AR? He has the highest vault ever by a US citizen in a sanctioned competition. Your posts suggest Mondo is, or should be, the AR holder.
It is true that the US government determines citizenship. Both Lagat and Duplantis were citizens at the time they performed better than the ARs. USATF, however, determines ARs. They are allowed to use the WA standard of citizen of the new country for a year, or however long their rules state. Even using the WA rule, the one that must be met to represent a country at Oly/WC, Mondo still makes the cut. By your logic (which I agree is not flawed) he is the PV AR holder.
Centro has retired from competitive racing. He doesn’t want to make a big deal out of it. He is an Olympic gold medalist. A legend. Possibly the greatest 1500m runner in US history.
