Terrible. This law is right where it belongs in Iowa, which has a rash of new anti-freedom/anti-American laws focused on greater voter suppression, limiting or abolishing abortion, and censoring history. Same category. It will get overturned eventually. Just sad.
Those new laws in Iowa regarding elections seem quite reasonable to me, but the Democrats cry "Voter suppression!" even when something as seemingly unobjectionable as a valid photo ID is required to register to vote.

Not banned, just have to compete against those they were born like. Why is that a problem?
It’s a problem because I don’t care what a person was; I care what a person is.
I used to be six years old. Does that mean I should compete against six-year-olds? Bernard Lagat was born Kenyan. Does that mean he should have never been allowed to compete at US champs?
People can change genders. When they do, it doesn’t matter what they were “bOrN LiKe.”

I’m always shocked there are people in this world as unintelligent and selfish as you.
If going under the knife is all it takes to change sex, can't going under the knife also change age? Many famous people have had terrific plastic surgery resulting in them essentially being 30 years younger. If they claim to be 30 instead of 60 and they really believe it, who are you or me to claim that they aren't?

I know that age and gender are not analogous in this case because of this:
you can legally change your gender on government documents such as a drivers license. You can’t change your birthday.
Who am I to claim that they aren’t? A person who graduated high school, which I assume is more than can be said for yourself.

Based on this twisted logic, one could also change one's race. Big Pharma's drugs and the surgeon's knife can't inherently change the body, it can only warp and mutilate it.

As far as I know, we don’t separate competition based on race. Does Iowa still have whites-only sporting events? I suppose that would be in line with their other positions.
Because we all were drug tested so many times in high school. Yawn. You all are losers and this rule changes nothing but I suppose getting excited over nothing is a must in Iowa.
Are laws how you define morality and logic? You seem to be okay with changing sex because tge law permits it but not are because the law doesn't permit it. Using your logic, you think abortion is okay if the law permits it but nit if tge law changes to prohibit it. Was it okay when blacks couldn't vote?
No but there are hundreds of scholarships for particular minorities and genders at the state universities. So if someone can change gender, they are eligible for more scholarships. They should also be able to change race. No surgery or hormones are required.
Why must you resort to insults? Have some compassion for your fellow human being. Do you insult people who are less intelligent than you or slower than you or just less fortunate? I will never understand the joy people get from insulting another.
Never thought I would say this, but it looks like the leaders in Iowa are some of the most sane in the country at the moment.
Yes, drafting up a bill that targets how many people exactly? Seems like a great use of time.
The bill is targeted at natal females--approximately 50% of the population. Why is this so difficult for people to understand? It's not anti-trans. It's pro-female. It doesn't take more than a few trans-identified males to adversely affect female sports on a national and internationl level.
Your problem is that you don't know which way the wind is blowing. Before a bastardized version of queer theory was all the rage, being trans was very rare and referred to aesthetic transition for adults. Nobody even dreamed it ought to make males eligible for female sports. Now youth who don't identify with gender stereotypes have taken up the trans identity, and by some strange alchemic belief system, think that this identity is factual in a way that material reality is not. It also would have been considered outrageous to tinker with natural puberty and brain development without evidence that doing so improves lives and is not associated with harmful health effects down the road. Now we censor Mr. Potato Head while treating gender-nonconforming children like the Potato Head Doll; their bodies are some nebulous blob that we plug organs and hormones into and out of at will. It's horrific.
Based on this twisted logic, one could also change one's race. Big Pharma's drugs and the surgeon's knife can't inherently change the body, it can only warp and mutilate it.

The issue goes far beyond just sporting competition, and if you fail to see that then you're just playing around.

They cannot change genders because gender is not a valid construct. Changing your name and which types of clothes you prefer to wear (which is basically what the pseudoscientific term gender really boils down to) changes nothing about what you are biologically.
