They could first attack Alaska and then move eastward with submarines attacking the East coast. The Capitol police can't even keep out a few 100 hooligans - how can they prevent DC from being taken over by a super power like Russia? Are we doomed?
They have one (1) aircraft carrier in their Navy and it has to be towed back most of the time.
Russia is infinitely better equipped and the air force has a fair amount of combat experience from flying missions in Syria. But the Russian army has not seen real combat since the Chechen war. And in that conflict, the Russians just bombed the sh#t out of every place they found separatists and were not very effective in direct combat with the separatist forces.
There are early signs that Ukraine forces have been able to extract some losses in defending their country. As you can tell from the pictures in the link below, Russian conscripts are a pretty ragged bunch. Beyond a relatively small number of elite fighting units, the Russian armed forces may not be that formidable. And I have also heard that a lot of Russia's equipment is old junk that is inferior to state of the art US weapons systems. So, on paper, Russia's military looks to be comparable to the US. But that is generally because Russia rarely retires equipment and spends only a tenth of what the US spends on its military.
Yep. Russia's military is not near the same capabilities of the US. We have a technological advantage in our ships, aircraft, drones, tanks and command and control systems. Our troops are more professional, better trained, and far more experienced in actual combat.
Russia could not defeat the US alone, and absolutely not us and all NATO allies that would be obligated to help defend us if attacked by Russia.
Obviously, there's no threat of that, I don't think. Just playing along with the hypothetical question the OP posed.
It's funny that someone down voted what I said here a few days ago. Lol! Who is the comrade that did that?
still yet, there is 100-200 million armed Americans in the USA. I have neighbors who own tanks just because they can. There are more guns in the US than the whole world combined. They wouldn't make it through a single state before getting gunned down by American citizens. Russia or any nation wouldn't stand a chance at taking the greatest country alive in a straight up war. That's why they are using 6th gen war tactics, that's all they got.
Considering how much of our population is afraid of needles and can't take the discomfort of wearing a mask- I'm not confident we can stop a foreign invasion.
We have more combat aircraft, nuc subs, more and better tech.
It would depend on where the war is fought.

US vs Russia would be nuclear and no one wins
With underground nuke explosions abolished how reliable is russia's nuclear arsenal? The USA spends alot on sophisticated simulations to ensure we are nuke ready. Its possible the only reliable weapons they have are old uranium gun type bombs which have much lower yield. Maybe anything else they launch is a crapshoot
Fighting for an app. 100 billionaire in Putin is not the same as fighting for Vlad Lenin &/or Joe Stalin. Russian infantry seems to lack gusto in Ukraine. Have to have logistics well planned. Special forces can be asked to find their own food and water but regular troops need to be fed and provided gasoline, ammo and water. Russia/Soviet Union infantry haven't been impressive since Lenin/Stalin. That said, Russia, if motivated could take Alaska. Alaska is extremely vulnerable. Would U.S. go all out nuclear over Alaska? Actually not wise for U.S. to go all out over Alaska.

The US would most certainly defend the 49th State or any of the other States in the Union. It can be done with conventional arms. We wouldn't do a first strike nuke attack on Russia, we would just kick them back into the Bering Strait.
Vulnerable? If Mother Russia cannot gain air superiority and maintain supply lines mere miles from their own borders, then they sure as hell couldn't mount an effective campaign in Alaska. The Air Force would light up their convoys and the local wolves would enjoy an "all you can eat" BBQ buffet.
I would have said our border until I heard that the Russian troops weren't in the Ukraine to pick lettuce. Since they are invading a sovereign nation and the people at our southern border are looking for a paycheck I had to go with the Ukraine.
Wonder how many Russian deserters will end up at the southern US border in the coming months after Russia crumbles because Vlad ate a bullet.

Calling BS on Alaska.
Without going nuclear, Russia would have to rely on Air Force and Navy to even get to Alaska. US air and sea advantage is so enormous that the battle would be over before it even started.

I can't breeeeetheee in this hellllmuuut!!!!
Somewhere in Wisconsin there are hundreds of deer hunters laying frozen in the snow, suffocated by face warmers that suddenly turned deadly in 2020.
If you are a student of military history you would realize that supply lines ultimately limit what is possible in modern warfare. Red Dawn is a mediocre war flick at best. It is entirely possible that Russia will take over more of countries after Ukraine but getting supplies across the Bering Straits or the Atlantic is not really easy. A parachute invasion of a foreign country seems very doable until you run out of beans or bullets

U.S. does not historically do well fighting that far north. I know Russia's military looks pathetic as I type. As I stated in another thread a few minutes ago, Putin is an awful Commander & Chief. Possibly Russian soldiers would fight harder for a populace commander & chief.
