milesplit needs to stop hyping this kid up. he is a huge talent but no kid at that age can live up to the hype. look at the NP boys. they run fast, then get hyped. every race harrison enters is a sub 4 attempt (according to milesplit). it’s too much and he doesn’t deserve it until he actually breaks 4.
I guess that’s what happens when you run 4:01 as a junior and then make a YouTube vlog channel about it.
Somebody else sees this clearly. The hype is brought on (at least partially - probably largely) by himself. This is not in itself bad. Self-promotion is admirable in some ways. Pro runners exist who could benefit from skills in that department. The downside, I suppose, is that hype can bring pressure. And when you don't live up to your own publicly-announced expectations, negative press can be a consequence.
If we'd never heard of him - just imagine he never used LRC nor any social media to bring attention to himself in the first place - we wouldn't be commenting. On anything. The louder you brag, the more likely Nike and their checkbook becomes aware of you. That's the potential upside... but the more likely you get ridiculed and mocked also. See, for example, the OP of this thread.
1-2 years of training gets runners near their peak. Harrison got there early but the early start didn't put him in a different place as a senior than had he started running 2 years ago. That's why he hasn't improved. I am not sure what your point is. I thought that you claimed by starting earlier, he has an advantage over people who started later but then you flipped to my point.

The saga reminds me of Brodey Hasty. At some point chasing the sub-4, which really doesn’t seem to have that same mystique any more, becomes somewhat of a burden for the athlete. Have fun and be a high-schooler!

I have no idea if this counts for anything, but it's pretty rare that high school kids (even the really good ones) make fast efforts look easy. I think I'd still put my money on him having significant room for improvement in college.
His problem is he avoids real competition. If you want to break 4 why didn't you go to NYC to race against the one guy who did break 4 in HS this season? Where were you with the runninglane race where all the big dawgs showed up?
He hides in Florida and expects to throw up big times solo. Not happening.
Not everyone can fly around the country to race.
Kid ran a decent time for midFeb. People should expect to be 3-5s faster in June. It would be awesome if all these sub 4:05 guys stay healthy and we have some monster outdoor nationals fields.
There is no question he has stagnated a bit since soph year. It happens. Sometimes that means you have peaked. Sometimes it just means you are about to take the step to the next level.

This ^^^^^^
He will run in "pro races" against good competition (superior runners), but he doesn't run (avoids running) on the national stage against other high schoolers.
(Honest question) Is he (or his people) afraid of (him) losing?
There were plenty of HS runners that ran fast as juniors before the advent of the Tinman youth model (whatever that is). Again, an early start is not going to result in better top-end speed and any aerobic advantage would be gone by the junior year. 2-3 years is enough and it’s going to come down to talent and the rate of physical maturity.
“Any aerobic advantage would be gone by junior year” is 100% unfounded and unscientific.
The accumulated aerobic and lactate threshold advantage from 4+ extra years of training those specific systems does not evaporate after two years of high school.
The fact that RH ran 4:01/:02? right after his sophomore year (!) and hasn’t made a significant jump in two years indicates he was VERY well trained from an early age, and now natural talent/capability limits are increasingly becoming part of the equation. Much like Hunter. And the Ping sisters. And Greydon Morris. See the pattern?
So again… Is he really [that] talented? Or was he just trained well from a young age?
I looked up Jacob’s results and he is the ultimate in having an early start. He ran a 4:00 conversion at sophomore age and 3:52, 2 years later. If RH never improves from the 4:01 he ran as a sophomore, it will be because he reached his physical peak at an early age. There have been guys that started running in 9th grade that have also hadminimal improvement after their sophomore year.

Why? Its a time that was surpassed and almost equaled by three guys indoors. Its a great time, not headline newsworthy in the least. Except for the fact that he finally raced HS'ers ?

Did I make it a headline? Seems to me a miler going 1:50 all by himself in a poorly paced race might be of interest. PRd by almost 1.5 seconds. But, if there is a standard that needs to be met for mentioning, please let me know.
If you take a 1:51 guy who's run 4:01 and he runs 1:50 in a weaker field with new state records in xc, as harrison has this year, you can bet he's ready to run sub-4 and low 8:40s. That's why this is significant.
Why is he even at this race??? This guy makes no sense. Why fly across the country for this random ass meet instead of trying to get a natiobal title at New Balance? It's like he's afraid to race other highschoolers at his level because he's worried he'll lose
why go across the country to run against nobody anywhere near his level?
I'm guessing but maybe he thought the NP guys might be running? He was entered in the mile as well, which followed the 800 by maybe 45 minutes, but scratched. Another question is why did he not run in NY in the race with 5 sub 4:05?
