He's tracking El G's records.
The outdoor 1500m, mile, and 2000m records are all going down soon. Very soon. The throne of the king of the mile will have to be passed to this kid.

Have to defend Rojo on this one.
Data is data, and three seconds/mile seems just about right to me.
Nobody should draw a conclusion based on one runner's performance improvement or decline; the overall picture here is pretty clear: the probability of a world or national best is what 10x more likely in these meets.
Yes, the tracks are faster, the fields are a bit deeper, but the shoes are a bit silly, bordering on the ridiculous.
Let's not forget the fact that he's three seconds clear of the second fastest time and 5 seconds clear of the third fastest time this year.
A lot of people downplay the time, but I'm seriously impressed with his mental fortitude to go ahead and perform exactly what is expected of him. Can't wait for worlds, both indoors and outdoors
Well I guess if 3s/mile seems “just about right” then the issue is settled! Who’s gonna tell Jakob that he’s running slower now than he did at 17?
Anyone who believes these spikes are worth 3 seconds/mile is not living in reality.
I thought your G league was the NCAA! You can't use the same reference for every meet you're not happy with. Get's dull and you lose style points.
Henceforth your LetsRun name is either “OozingKrappa,” “ExcuseMyKrappa” or the like.
it was a class race and he won.
Yet most of you people are either not impressed or verklempt over those who aren't impressed.
Why can't people enjoy the racing instead of defending their valueless opinions?
The legend comes through. Looking buttery smooth on the track. Looked effortless really.
If he maintains fitness into summer we could be looking at our first sub 3:27 in a long time.

Stop being delusional. Yakob will never run anywhere close to 3:26 even with super duper spikes and ultra tracks.
As soon as I saw the pacers with the wavelight, I didn't think I was going to enjoy the race, but the French announcers (whom I understood) made it so darn exciting.
Well done, Jakob!
His annihilation of world records has only just begun…
This seems to be a...not so subtle dig.
Well he's got a point. A 3:30 for Jakob is a walk in the park. If he runs a 3:26 there'll be some strain.
Haile literally has the greatest range in history. And why focus on geb and not el g?
2 takeaways. Either:
A. Yakob is doped to the gills
or
B. A 3:30 indoors just isnt impressive at all.
Steve Cram on his 3:46.30 WR:
"And when we got to the bell, I remember thinking, 'I am feeling so good here.' I just floated around the last lap." [It was done in 53.16!!]
"There are moments in anyone's sporting career where you almost can do no wrong. Running a world record should be one of the most difficult things you ever do in your life. It should be physically on the edge, demanding, and yet, that night for me in Oslo, it seemed like one of the most simplest and easiest things for me to do, physically, my career, I couldn't be any better."
POTD
Anyone else catch the pole from the pole vaulter being about a half second away from potentially interfering with Jakob on his way out of the final turn? Jakob passed by about a half second prior to it falling, a worker caught it before it would have been very close to going directly into lane 1.
Had Jakob been about a half second slower (and no worker to catch the pole) what a crazy sequence that would have been. I’m surprised the marshals allowed the jumper to go at that time.
He wasn't a marathoner in '98 when he ran 3:31. At that point he was the GOAT 5K runner already with a withering kick.
