You have still failed to provide any details regarding how loose clothing is determined. Or provide anything about why only women on a mixed team were flagged while the men were not (same outfit made by the same company).

Interesting, they literally got kicked out for sporting big bottoms, but I’m not sure I understand the physics of how either heavier or looser pants gives them an advantage as air resistance doesn’t depend on mass and increases with surface area, but perhaps they are gaining an advantage by streamlining with their narrower head relative to wider hips?

If you wear such an outfit on the weekend, compete in it while practicing and stretching out, and then use the same suit a few days later the fit will be looser. The boy trolling this thread knows this but trolling is the same he is playing. He cannot define a subjective rule as proving what too loose means? That men on the team wearing the same suit were not banned is all you need to know.

No, I'm posting under one name. Also not trolling. I think you probably are to some extent, but I'm not.

You tried to create a #metoo moment and, somewhat surprisingly given the audience here, it failed. You miscalculated how easy it is to create #metoo moments, on the one hand, with the fact that you still need at least some bit of substance to your claim, on the other hand. Basically, you couldn't meet the threshold for outrage, even though the threshold is incredibly low.

There are 11 pages of stuff like this. It’s not about wearing the same outfit as the men it’s about whether your outfit is too loose. There was a big problem in ski jumping as the athletes were all anorexic and wearing loose clothing to act like a wingsuit.

The jumping suit must in all places and parts be tight-fitting the athlete’s body.

The measurements of the suit must conform the measurement of the body in an upright position with a tolerance of at least 1 cm in addition and a maximum of 3 cm to the body at any part of the suit (For Ladies at least 2 cm in addition and a maximum of 4 cm). An exception is the part around the boot: the jumping suit can be maximally 10 cm larger (beginning at the knee) than the value which is measured around the jumping shoe and must cover the boot.”

Lift = .5* coefficient of lift* density*v^2*WingArea

Bigger your wing area, the more lift, the farther down the hill you go.

Be curious to know what the specific rules and how they measure. And how big of cheating are we talking about...

Your equation is for rigid surfaces. The outfits are elastic. Flapping elastic elements increase drag.

Wear tights once they fit a certain way. Wear them a second time with washing and they fit looser. Whoever decided to suddenly ban the outfits after allowing them a few days ago is clueless; they failed Clothing 101.

Your equation is for rigid surfaces. The outfits are elastic. Flapping elastic elements increase drag.

It is an approximation. You can do some cfd to get exact results. But in the end more area equals more lift and the added lift is more important than the drag

Exactly the group I could see pushing the envelope to try and get that last foot... You know if they are allowed 4cm, everyone is up at 3.99....

Rigid surfaces and elastic surfaces react very differently. Using a rigid body equation is not going to provide anything useful. Those who decided to change rule to disallow outfits that were okay just a day ago screwed up.

Other than explaining why they are trying to increase there surface area. But let me guess you don't think the lift of a surface has any relation to surface area....

I actually made some of the suits for the jumpers in the Sochi Olympics.  We made all sorts of weird shapes and played with subtle tweaks to see what would fly better.  A few centimeters +\~ would make a suit legal versus illegal. It was a delicate balance.  Each suit was fully custom for each athlete. Just rotating the texture of the fabric changed how it worked in a head wind versus a tail wind.   

Why do the snowboarders and tricksy ski jumpers wear those little-kid baggy snowsuits? They even wear it for racing. That has to be terrible aerodynamics, just for the sake of their 90s skateboard fashion relic image.

By the way Shawn White just screwed up big time, fell right on his freckly butt on global TV. What's he even doing still around, must be 60 years old, obviously not a sport.

You can't even see those people or tell who's who under the snowsuits.

The OP is actually factually correct . The FIS Leadership group are all Men. Theses men did not like the women in loose fitting suits . The men did like the suits in the preliminary round and pre-inspection , then the men did not like the loose suits after complaints/ protests . The Protest were also filed by Men. Details are on the Olympic IOC site .

This is a global sport because non snow boarders like you are intrigued and watch on TV , know the names of athletes et. If you posted pictures of the last 5 Boston marathon winners , I would not know if they were marathon runners or bank robbers.

I watch on TV because I'm bored. I know Shawn White because he's been on for like 20 years. He's the only one whose name I know.

His second run he did ok and ended up 4th and made the final! Only shows again it's not a sport, the guy is like 60 years old.

Tell you something else about this snowboarding, no way does grabbing the board add anything to the trick. I don't care if it's harder or not. Does it look neat? No, you can hardly even see it until the instant replay. Not dazzled at all. Big deal.
