If the NFL were really serious about hiring black coaches, then it would give rewards for doing so. Say a 4th round draft pick and then another pick if he still is around after 3 or 4 years. Requiring owners to go through the motions and just interview a couple of black guys gets you what you have now. A couple of black guys interviewing for each job opening so the owner can check the box and then go hire a white guy.

If you are implying that my feelings are out of touch with reality, then you are sorely mistaken. I only was opining on what the NFL should be doing if it really were serious about hiring black coaches. I, personally, don't think the NFL should be doing anything and the owners should be able to freely hire whoever they want to with no sticks or carrots. It has become pure comedy watching these multi-billion organizations hire one obviously bad coach after another (both white and black). They should be free to continue doing so.

The Rooney rule puts an asterisk next to every hire it produces by default.

Forcing teams to interview a token when they already have a coach in mind is just virtue signaling nonsense that does more harm than good.

32 NFL teams and currently only one black head coach in a sport that has been overwhelming dominated by blacks for the last 40 years. That's like all the NHL head coaches being black expect for one white head coach and the league being 94% white. White folks would have a fit.
