I don't see why the U.S. or any other country should have the obligation to fix the world's problems. Burkina Faso just had a coup, should we get involved there? And why didn't we get involved a few weeks ago when Russian troops marched into Kazakhstan to help squash the protests in that country?

USA cares because we sell gas cheaper to Europe. If Russia has Ukraine, they can sell cheaper to Europe. It's always about fossil fuels

Hold on a minute. Whose to say all the innocent civilians we kill aren’t also bad? Why can we go in and kill civilians everywhere we go and it’s a good thing, but if anyone else does it then it’s a bad thing? Every single time this situation has happened all we do is kill civilians and make things worse. Remember Vietnam? Remember multiple countries for 20 years in the Middle East? All we did was kill innocent civilians and make their lives worse. I guarantee you if we get mixed up in this all we’re going to do is kill women and children, displace millions, and Russia will end up with whatever they want anyways.

But let me guess, you think it’s ok if we kill women and children and displace entire nations in the name of US freedom.

We should care because a conflict between Russia and Ukraine could potentially be very bloody and destructive. It would disrupt vital natural gas deliveries to Europe and cause the current supply chain problems to worsen significantly. There would also be a refugee crisis that could cause big problems beyond Ukraine's borders. Belarus has been on the verge of a civil war, with Russia forces needed to put down unrest. A waive of refugees from Ukraine to Belarus could lead to a wider conflict. Finally, we know how Russia fights from their conflicts in Georgia and Chechnya. If Ukraine forces hold their lines, Russia will bomb the snot out of Kiev and lay waste to much of Ukraine. That could cause western powers to ramp up support for Ukraine forces and trigger a very dangerous game between nuclear powers.

On the other hand, we should not care about giving Russia most of what they want to end this conflict and keep Ukraine free and independent. The US and Russia no longer have an ideological divide like during the cold war. There is no reason for NATO expansion and both Russia and NATO should be working closely to deescalate and move troops away from each other. Putin will see a surge in support in the short run for showing strength and standing up to the US. But in the long run, Ukraine will be a huge problem if annexed by Russia. Most western Ukrainians do not speak much Russian and do not like their Russian and Eastern Ukrainian neighbors. Even if Kiev falls quickly militarily, there will be decades of protest and political resistance that will make life very difficult for Putin.
