I was FaceTiming with Vin L and Al Sal. They quietly read the splits as he passed 200m waterfall.

Now Cole was clearly tempoing. If anything about 70% effort.

One interesting thing was how he negative split every 100m. So when he started he was maybe 3:00 first 200m.

The chaos meant that units were mixed together, some had drowned on the way to the beach and a lot of the artillery had sunk on the way. Men were sheltering behind the sea wall as the tide came in, cutting down on their space. Leadership was lacking, dead or wounded or just afraid to go. The barrage from the air and sea had not had a major effect on the German bunkers on the cliffs. Rommel's men had decided to stop there to practice just prior to D-Day. So, it was only isolated men who on the spur of the moment, after staying behind the sea wall for considerable time, that sporadically led men up to the paths up or around the cliffs.

Men sought refuge behind beach obstacles, pondering the deadly sprint across the beach to the seawall, which offered some safety at the base of the cliff.
