Lomong for certain. Then potentially....Shadrack, Lenny, Jenkins, Fisher, Kincaid, Bor. Mcgorty.

Rupp thrived, surging and leaving a broken mess of bodies in his wake.

Pretty much where I'm at. I think he would have a shot at the 10. The 10k & marathon require similar enough training. He's more talented than any other US runner ever at that distance. Yeah, he prolly can't close in 55 but how many can run 27-low with him from the gun if he took it out fast. He was good at the 5k but never had the wheels to compete globally for a medal. I think it would be harder for him to grab a top-3 spot with everyone kicking in a 13:30 race.
If everyone has to wear a mask, yeah, he can win the 10.

I think he isn't running because he has no shot to medal at the Olympics. He ran a 1:00:23 half last year, which is almost exactly the equivalent of a 27min 10k. I don't think he is closing in 52, but he can compete with Lamong, True, Fisher, etc. and I'm sure those guys know it. If he went out and ran a 27:45 to get the standard, they would all be paying attention.
I'm not sure there is anyone on the thread saying he would 100% win the trials, but he would be a contender. My guess is he would be 5th, but if he came in top three or won it wouldn't surprise me.
Did you guys watch the 2017 US championship? The 2019 one?
In 2017, he was 5th. In 2019, he didn't run.

See above.
He obviously wasn't training for it in 2017.

People are comparing Woody Kincaid to the GOAT of US Distance running hahahahahaha just stop. Seriously don't post that nonsense again.
I'm no fanboi but given the competition, Rupp could make the team on talent alone. If he actually trained for the event his chances of winning would probably be 75%.

You are conflating comparing their entire career's resume to evaluating their 10000m ability in the summer of 2021. I believe you are smart enough to understand those are not the same.
Rupp would not have a 75% chance to win the trials unless Lomong gets injured.

I know what I'm comparing. That's why I made the caveat, "If he actually trained for the event."
Thanks.

I suppose Alan Webb could make the team at 1500m if he actually trained for the event. Alan is only 38. Maybe Ritz at 38 could make the 10000m team if he trained for it. You sound ridiculous. Galen Rupp is no longer the runner he was in 2014. Not even close.
Emo, go back to the 1990s. Rupp is better than he was in 2014. Did you not pay attention in Atlanta where he demolished all of America's best?

He barely beat a guy in his 40s. But I suppose that impressed you.

Lolol what a joke. Running away from a bunch of 2:10 guys is not the same as running away from a bunch of 27 low guys. I can’t believe fanboys delude themselves into thinking he is better suited in the 10000m than he was in 2014.

I am not going to insult you. You really do not grasp what is happening here. It is OK. Galen likely cannot even run 13:15 so there is no chance he can double it. Galen at his absolute best struggled when running 13:00 5000m pace.
But ran a 26:44 10k, which is equivalent to a 12:49 5k. So clearly more of a strength runner. With his the past few years of him doing marathon training has only improved his strength that much more. Plus the super spikes. Come on, Rupp if he wanted to could crush it this year in the 10000 trials.
rupp needs time to recover after a full effort.
he's never run a totally fresh 5k at champs.
so his 5k ability at peak is under estimated.
that said, rupp can run 27 flat off marathon traning. and his best he was capable of 2630 ` 10k
in the 5 or 10k, you need to go 53 last 400m off a tough pace to medal, so you can't do that off of primarily marathon training.
you can win the nationals with a 56 last lap in a 2720 10k race which rupp can do off marathon training with some speed work.
rupp having medaled in the last og marathon, and was in there to the end for silver, well, if he brings his A game, and the field, as it happens so often at the loympics, where you have most guys not preforming even close to their best, rupp can medal again.
that is the whole story right there.
Rupp is so good they separate him from Jerry's boys.
Ha! Galen probably couldn’t run sub 27 in the 5k right now, let alone the 10K! I’m betting money he takes a walking break before the first 3 miles of the Olympic marathon is over.
Why do you think they’ve only filmed the beginning and endings of his road races? I’ll tell ya why... cause anyone can record themselves sprinting twice and say they ran a fast time. The media is a S H A M.

That’s not good enough anymore. This isn’t the days where he just had to outkick shuffler Abdi.
Yeah but Ventolin you always thought Galen was good for 12:45 so I am not sure you are the most credible on this subject.

hey, you talking to me?
if you were, being confused with Ventolin is a super low blow,
if you do it again,
i'm going to call you double vantolin, you are a ventoling to infinity.
there you go sucker.
