Great post. I used to be a vocal advocate of Saucony, but then 2 things happened.

They stopped making the grid stabil shoe fhe way they had been for 10+ years. And they started bringing politics into their marketing.

Just sell great shoes. Dont preach. They now do not sell great shoes, and they preach.

Saucony is owned by Wolverine Worldwide (ticker: WWW) and is considered a fairly well-run company on Wall Street, although it has nowhere near the market power that Nike possesses. Other brands include Sperry, Merrell, Keds, Wolverine, Cat, Hush-puppies. It is a lifestyle brand, not an athletic brand like Nike or Adidas and the management has more a lifestyle brand approach to shoes.

Now as to why Saucony or WWW, like so many other companies, engages in this type of WOKE signaling is probably not a mystery, It is cheap virtue signaling and you can bet they have studies that prove that many customers respond to this shallow altruism, even if the total spend on this stuff is a small percentage of the original.

We like to feel morally superior, even if we are not.

1. More people jogging and being healthier.

2. Getting to know your neighbors and community members through a shared activity.

3. Running companies making more money because they have more customers.

4. More people running and being interested in running.

5. The United States becoming more competitive in distance running by developing more talent in Black, Latinx, and Indigenous communities.
