We also will be doing a live watch praty and reaction show starting 5 minutes before the race (so 1:55 pm ET) and then going on for as long as we need to afterwards:
They are framing this as a huge success but come on she bonked the last lap.
What are they supposed to say? "Well that sucked" It's a show, it's an event, they are doing what they do. It got a lot of people watching, mission accomplished.
They do, but everyone come on - you can't not be impressed by her courage and effort. She was visibly hurting going down that back straight heading towards 1000m and she toughed it out.
I am impressed by that. Honestly, I felt it could have gone much worse - especially in the final 200m. And with splits better suited to her physiology and level they probably could have got her to 4.04 high, 4.05 low.
From Nikes side I think they would have been hoping for a little better - I don't really know how you would evolve this initiative from here, but kudos to them for investing in it and making it something exciting and intriguing.
Good thing she didn’t run like 3:59.9 or something because there was like a 0.5 second correction on her time from clock initially stopped at. If that thing would’ve stopped onscreen at 4:00.37 and then they corrected her under, that would’ve been pretty anticlimactic.
Agree that having a bunch of dudes beside her looking like they're jogging and chatting the whole way at sub-4 pace completely diminished any sense of it even being a difficult feat. Spectacularly bad event.
Why are there so many people who are so negative on this thread? This was a cool event and Faith ran an unofficial world record. Yeah maybe she was never going to run under 4, but at least she tried. God forbid track and field gets some publicity...
Because you need to be at least somewhat realistic. Sub-2 was at least believable even in 2017, but sub-4 for a woman is too soon. We all knew that. Hardly anyone here believed it.
Why on earth is everyone so negative? 4:06 for a woman is amazing. Unlike anything we have ever seen before. What’s wrong with bringing attention to the sport for once?
It's a bit disappointing because it is actually like her real 1500 WR and something that could have been done in a real race
Either two things happened here. Either she was worse form than she was last year in her 3:49...or pacemaking doesn't make much of a difference in a mile.
Pacemaking clearly makes a difference. Super duper racing suit, not so much.
Paid for that first 800 split dearly in the last 600. Can we stop now with this gimmick and just enjoy watching her run real races and beat all her competition? This stuff is just a commercial for Nike gear.
You will see plenty of actual real commercials now from this footage.
Given how much Nike threw into this I was honestly expecting her to get a little closer to 4 flat. Went exactly how everyone called it.
My guess a few days ago was 402 and I thought 405 was highly likely. Definitely a bit of a failure. Yeah, that last lap must have hurt. Surprised the pacing formation was not tighter and that they did not peel off sooner on the last curve to allow her to finish alone (on pace or not).
Still fun to watch!

Bannister ran on a mondo track with pace lights, plumped by millions of Nike money surrounded by more than a dozen pacers; nope just two teammates on a dirt track in early May 1954.

She runs a 4:06 and the comments are as expected for Let's Run. You people really are sh!t human beings and deserve a dying sport. Nothing anyone does makes you happy unless they fail at it, and then you act like you won the lottery. I hope there is a hell because you all deserve to spend eternity there.

They aren't being negative, they're being realistic. That was a complete farce.
Even though it was disappointing I was in tears watching the beautiful display of running and support. It’s nice to see a running event get attention . Unlike Breaking 2 she could try again in a short time.
These announcers were cringeworthy. "one of the most remarkable miles we've ever seen, man or woman. She ran with the weight of the world on her shoulders". This woke nonsense is getting out of hand. 15 year old boys are going sub-4 now. She was over a second per lap off that. If anything, this just showed the clear differentiation between the two sexes and made a compelling argument as to why men should not compete in women's sports.
