There was a recent wolfpack_tf_xc post that contained some video of Shea running in a training group with Rauber, michalak and a few others. so presumably she is pretty fit. I personally hope she redshirts this season; I think long terms it’s best for her development.
* definitely deep team .... two Wolfpack runners at Nuttycombe "B Race" - Briley Bickerstaff - (21:01.4) (who finished 2nd) and Daniela Scheffler - (21:11.2) (who finished 3rd) would have finished around 80 or so in the main field.
* Wolfpack ladies also ran yesterday at Pandora Farms at Virginia .... Wolfpacks' Phoebe Anderson won the 6k in 20:00 ... but ran "unattached" ... she is not listed on NC State's Cross Country roster but is listed on hte Track roster ... .perhaps she has no eligibility left for XC?
* Neither Fluer Templier nor Ellie Shea ran at either of the two meets yesterday ("A" or "B" races) .... we have seen Templier in some Instagram photos training ... but has there been any updates on Shea?
Anderson definitely has no XC eligibility. She ran 4 seasons at Columbia.
I am pretty familiar with Scheffler. She is one of the best talents I've seen come out of Ohio. As you know, Hartman is from Ohio and Scheffler ran faster HS times IIRC. Scheffler has a lot of raw talent that Henes should be able to draw out. She did a lot of gymnastics through HS and split her time between that and XC/track. I'm not suggesting she'll surpass Hartman. They're two totally different runners. Scheffler is a lot smaller. Not as small as Sophia Kennedy of Stanford but still small. FWIW, Scheffler did finish ahead of Sadie Englehardt at NXN last year.
I'm not sure what is going on with Templier. I've asked a lot and really haven't gotten an answer. I'm hoping for some insight from an "insider." If she redshirts as well as Armitage & Shea, the team will be really good next season. As good as they are this year, they will be even better next year. I believe that with the exception of Rauber, the entire team will still have eligibility next year.
I was under the impression that Templier only ran 2 seasons of cross country while she was at Portland. I believe she still has 2 seasons of cross eligibility left.
Laurie Henes post Nuttycombe...sounds like they are in the middle of hard training - thinks Gapes should be right with the front 2 (although she walks through at the back and did not seem to be feeling well or happy at all). Also thought the 6/7 should have been much closer to Engelhardt (without mentioning names) as they have been training right with each other.
Coach Laurie Henes of North Carolina State discusses her team's victory at the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational on Friday at Thomas Zimmer Cross Country Course.
Hate to see Gapes crying in the background. Some of the bodies are redlining, and maybe a bug is going through the camp. It’s time to reset and run easy for a few days; hard workouts now to try and fix it is not the correct approach. I would definitely hold her out from running workouts with Napoleon for a while. She needs full recovery. Maybe get blood iron checked, and even vitamin B shots, if necessary.
(I’ve been mentally pronouncing it gah-peas, but the race broadcast commentator pronounced it to rhyme with grapes.)

just watched that video. It sounds as if they didn't cut back at all for Nuttycombe. They'll show better for the rest of the season.
It sounds like Hartman's plantar fasciitis was pretty bad or if it wasn't, they were being cautious about it. It kind of sounds like she may not run in the SE regional when listening to Henes.

Running is a brutal sport and there is a bit of a mystery to all of it. Why is one day good and another bad? Why do some athletes respond to training and progress rapidly and others stagnate? There is no place to hide on a XC course and you can't get through a day/game like you can in other sports. A football, soccer or basketball player can play with a cold, or even a fever, and fake it a bit. This is not the case in running which is why it takes such a mental toll. Key is to not to take the lows too hard and not feel invincible with the highs. Hence, trust the process and celebrate the team aspect.

re Templier, in the workout video released today though she was with group 2 it looked like she did not do the full 1200s but dropped out at maybe 800? So probably still working on regaining fitness.
I noticed Englehardt wearing what appears to be Brooks Hyperion Elites in the workout. I wondered how things would work for the athletes with footwear NIL deals that are with shoe companies other than that which is sponsoring the school. I guess it's not a big deal. I have no idea what shoes she's racing in.
