With three weeks to go. Hard to see how we don’t end up significantly faster at each placing for each event.

I was reading the start of this thread. The prediction was made that Centennial, MV, Rocky, Boise, Eagle, and CDA could all see 6 guys go sub 10. This is how it's turned out so far:

Boise: at 5, without a great prospect to break 10. Andrew Dodds did not run this year, so that really hurt that prediction.
CDA: Yes, without Lachlan May or Kyle Rohlinger having run it yet.
Centennial: 1. Guys at 10:07 and 10:09. It looks a bit like the injury bug is still getting them.
Eagle: 1. Guys at 10:00, 10:04, 10:06, 10:08, so in theory they could get to 5, but I doubt one of those guys runs it again.
MV: 3. They have a guy at 10:14, and Noah Orton hasn't run one. They have another sub 4:30 guy that hasn't run one, either.
Rocky: Yes, at 8. They have guys at 10:05, 10:07, and 10:11 that might run it again.

Maybe it’s just me, but if Rocky gets to 10+ kids sub 10, that’s more impressive than 30 sub 5. The two together are really impressive. Lots of depth and then lots of high end depth. Boise and CDA both had nice track seasons for both genders.

Meridian boys and Timberline girls both got a lot better. Mountain View has developed a lot of nice depth on the boys side.

To me, it looks like district III cross is going to be Rocky, Timberline, Boise, Mountain View, Owyhee, Meridian, and Centennial for the boys and Timberline, Rocky, Boise, Mountain View, Owyhee, Capital and Eagle for the girls.

10 guys sub 10 is pretty crazy.

5A District III will be interesting next year after Rocky, Timberline, Boise and Mountain View.

Owyhee has potentially a low stick, and solid 2-4. Meridian does have a low stick and is getting a lot better really fast. Capital graduates a good amount and doesn't appear to have the guys coming up. Centennial has 4 solid guys and potentially a 5th in a 2:00 800m guy. Eagle is solid through 3, but needs to develop 4 and 5 and don't really have the bench depth . When a team is lacking a 5th, I trend towards the team that has the best 1, so Meridian and Owyhee look the best for two of those spots, and Centennial looks like they just have more options than anyone else out there.

It does appear like there will be an 8th spot next year in 6A.

Never mind, I forgot Middleton is dropping down.

Who do you think tries the distance triple at state in 5A? Does Stadtlander pull off the triple crown if he does it?

Heemeyer will easily win the 3200 in 5A, barring injury. He could also win the 1600 if he can get it fast enough as he easily has the best time so far (mile converted from Jesuit). He has no shot in the 800, which Kemper or Stadtlander will win, 50/50. Neither could win the 3200, but I wouldn’t be surprised if neither even runs it to save their legs for other events.

Athay will take the 16/32 and has a shot at the 8 in 4a. Same with Speirs in 3a and Johnston in 2a. Stockett will win whatever he wants in 1a.

I wish they’d somehow run all the top times together. It would be fun to see Speirs/Stockett/Athay get the opportunity.

“Easily” is probably a little bit of an overstatement. Max CS, Stadtlander, Sheesley, Ringert and Helder if he runs it should at least give some pause. It’s a great field. I agree that he will win, but probably not with the confidence that you have.

I think the guys that try the triple are the top end 3200m guys that are weaker at the 800. The 800 is just a bonus for them at that point where the 3200 could cost someone a title the next day.

In the last two years, Heemeyer is undefeated against Idaho guys in cross country and the 3200m except for guys named Stadtlander or Sainsbury. He has been remarkably consistent, and I don't think anyone has shown that they can have a hot enough hand to beat him if he performs as expected, except for Stadtlander. I don't think he will easily win, but I would take him vs. the field, especially if Stadtlander isn't in it.

I think the 1600m is a different story, but he has to be the overwhelming favorite at 3200m until proven otherwise.

Agree. I think that if Heemeyer goes out in 4:32-4:35, nobody can stay close to that pace (on Idaho soil) the second half and he'll run away from the field.

For the 1600, he should go out 2:06 at the slowest, closer to 2:03.x if he wants to ensure he completes the double.

Idk that 4:35 is going to shake much lose... Ringert ran 9:16 in Boise last year at state, so 4:38's. According to the track thread last year, he had a good fever and it was very hot at the start of the 3200m. He ran 9:13 at Oregon last year and ran 9:04 this year. Sheesley ran 3 seconds behind him at Arcadia. Max CS ran 9:13 at Simplot, which is 4500'. Helder ran 9:17 there. There's plenty of guys that won't be too bothered with a 4:35 opening 1600m.

I think that if he wants to have people fall off the pace, it's going to have to be a lot more like 4:28.

What time wins 5A state this year? I went through the list of contenders and we’ve seen remarkably few all out efforts at the 3200 in Boise or at a similar elevation.

CDA and Rocky are both having great results at their meets right now.

CDA 800 - May 1:55.52, Max 1:56.26, Zach 1:58.07, King 1:59.61, Carr 2:00.35

Rocky 1600 - Kurtz 4:26, Majors 4:36

Rocky 800 - Lucas 1:53.83, Jaymon Clark 2:00.67

Mountain View had a nice meet too.
Rilyn Stevens destroyed the field. Jocelyn Matthews went 5:14. Holland Keihl ran 2:21. Chitwood wins the 800 over Taylor.

Three boys under 4:25, 4 under 4:30, 5th at 4:30. Top 5 returners went 4:22, 4:27, 4:30, 4:39, and 9:54 yesterday.

Eagle looked a lot better at 4-5 on both girls and guys.

They went 5:11, 5:19, 5:22, 5:33, 5:34 for the girls. Previously had 5:19, 5:23, 5:35, 5:37 and 5:40 bests.

Guys now have 9:54, 10:04, 10:08, 10;14, 10:19 on the season. Previously were at 10:04, 10:06, 10:07, 10:21, 10:30. Those boys are in 10th, 9th, 10th, 9th, and 11th grade, in order, so fairly young.

Meridian continues to look like they are developing and getting a lot better.
