She got beat fair and square. I was struck by the lack of sportsmanship after the race. Didn't congratulate the winner, didn't even acknowledge anybody and just left the stadium. She is a great runner but I was surprised and disappointed by how she handled herself.
Hmmm...When did it become a sportsmanship issue if you've just lost a race and didn't congratulate the winner? Or acknowledge the other competitors? If it was a close race and you were the defending champ or record holder then maybe a congrats to the winner is in order. Not, after you've had a terrible race and placed 7th.

Agree, this is not some beauty pageant. But what is even worse about this is that a Flotrack broadcaster via a podcast gave an eyewitness account that in fact she did congratulate everyone in the race. Sounds like it was in the cool down area. Meanwhile these idiot trolls get to keep spreading lies and slandering someone.
And yet, you are completely obsessed with her. She lives rent free in your head 24/7. Must have kicked your a** in a race and you never got over it. There’s help out there for you if you need it. Be brave and take the first step.

And you believe this guy? Where was he sitting? He could view all the race finishes AND the cooldown area? And he ticked off every single competitor in the 1500m? Why should we believe him? He may have 'the mania' too.

you do realize all of the jounalists go to the athletes to do the interviews, right? They do not just sit in the stands.

I’m going to believe someone that is an established media presence in the sport of track and field well before I’m going to believe some random unregistered poster on a message board, spewing nonsense, so there’s that.
What is this “mania” of which you speak? Has this been a problem you have been dealing with for awhile? I am very sorry to hear about your troubles.

My guess watching her over the years and also personally understanding what it feels like to fail in a big race, is that she may not have immediately sought out the other finishers 2 feet past the finish line due to her disappointment. They were most likely celebrating etc. and I saw lots of photos of hugs and exuberance amongst them. I also saw pics of Tuohy being consoled by who I assume was her dad. I'm guessing that then in the media/cool down/awards tent area she was finally composed enough to then seek out and congratulate the other runners as reported by the flotrack guy. So both can be true- she didn't at the finish, got a hug from dad, pulled herself together and was a good sport at the end. Sounds like a normal range of emotions for someone with the pressure of the country on her. My only cause for pause on the sportsmanship is if she then truly didn't show up for her 7th place award and photo. Unless you are in the medical tent then you should. Maybe she did? no one seems to know but some have noticed her missing in other teams media releases.
At the end of the day I think how she moves forward will be telling as the sport can chew you up and spit you out and you have to be tough with losses and be able to have a short memory and move on.

Sounds reasonable. It’s also possible that since a decision had not been made yet on the 5k, she was told before the 1500 by the coaches to come straight off the track afterward to rest and prepare.
I’m also a little curious about the male athletes after a race, do they have the same expectations for post race etiquette as the women? It doesn’t seem to be that way.

I haven't been to the stadium in question. But I seriously doubt that this ultra trustworthy Flotrack guy moved from the stands where he was watching the race to this cooldown area and was then able to watch Tuohy go up to and congratulate every single one of the other runners from the 1500m. Wasn't he busy interviewing people? It sounds like something he made up tbh. 'Established media presence'. What on earth does that mean. You mean he's like FoxNews or CNN? Or he's like Rojo? Come on.

You know that's a good point- the small amount of time between races she may have been focused on the next one up if the call to scratch hadn't been made. No idea how quickly they get the awards and interviews done and release the athletes. Some who weren't doubling obviously had more time to hang around for photo ops etc...
As for expectations of women vs men and how they talk to media and handle wins/losses. Double standards for sure. It's the same in politics, business, etc etc....
Just one bad day for Tuohy. She'll do well going forward. Kelsey Chmiel would have done better at the 5000.
So Katelyn Tuohy is a terrible sportswoman. Who cares. Have you ever seen Tom Brady congratulate the opposing QB after a playoff loss? She has been the golden princess since high school. She doesn't care about the other runners. She didn't care about this rinky dinnk race. She has bigger fish to fry, i.e., the Olympics.

Actually, it is something most people care about.
Most people favor good sportsmanship over poor sportsmanship in all our sports heroes.
Of course, "hero" gets thrown around a lot these days and most of our "heroes" are anything but.
Tuohy is put in a tall pedestal around here and she will be heavily scrutinized for her good and bad performances and even moreso for her reactions to these performances. In this case, it is quite legitimate to scrutinize her performance, her choice to compete in a difficult double attempt, the consequences of choosing that double in light of not being 100%....and most of all how she handled losing and dropping out the 5k after losing the 15 badly. None of it looked good that day nor does it look good reflecting on it a week later.
